Kevin Smith 2021

I know Kevin is a young 24, but he is 24.   Maybe he gets a shot with the big league club later this year?

If I am Mets fan, I am not sure I am too happy about this trade so far (even with Castro doing better this year).

Another nice outing by Smith tonight.  How long does he stay in AA?

Maybe there should be a policy that when the ERA is lower than the WHIP, it's time to move the pitcher up a level. But seriously, he could very easily slide into Eshelman's spot in the Norfolk rotation.

Thing is - he did very well in AA 2 years ago, and he's 24 already.  Granted, the pandemic threw things off, but it seems like a case of either the O's not believing in him or them being too slow to promote him.

Kevin is a low 90s fastball guy.  They often don't move up fast  He had 6 starts at AA in 2019 and he has had 5 this season.   He is probably going to get a half a season at AAA this season.

Lowther is also a low 90's guy with a high spin rate.  He did great in a full year at AA.  But he is having troubles this year at AAA/Majors.

What's he gonna learn in AA?

I’m fine moving Smith up whenever, but it’s not as if he’s pitched a ton of AA.    He’s pitched like 57 innings there.   Some people make it sound like he’s been in AA forever, but it’s not really the case.

He has been there for 2 years!  :)
