Wouldnt you hire an army of private detectives to crawl over the life story of anyone you are thinking of giving a contract like that to?  If he was older California had to know, they just must of thought they would get five good years out of him at least.  Never thinking they would get the crap they did.

Quite a juxtapose having the best player in the game playing beside the most unwanted contract in the game for 10 years.

The Cardinals obviously knew that it was wiser to let Pujols walk maybe a few years early rather than do what the Angels did.  You're right, thats what a good organization does.

That, and I suspect that they might have known that he really isn't his listed age.

Interesting article from an interview with David Samson, former Marlins President. I think most people suspect Pujols is actually 44 years old. The big quote:

Quote

"We knew when we did the calculations for that deal that we didn’t care about 2019, '20 or '21. It was so far in the future that it didn’t matter,” Samson said. "We knew he’d be unproductive, we knew that he was not the age that he said he was. We had all the information."

Le Batard responded, "Did you just report flatly that Pujols is older than he’s always claimed to be?"

Samson said, "There is not one person in baseball, not one executive, who believes Albert Pujols is the age that he says he is. The amount of fraud that was going on in the Dominican back in the day, the changing of names, the changing of birthdays, it would blow your mind."

Guess we'll just wait and see if he starts collecting social security in 24 years or sooner!   :)

Are those still a thing?  The one near my house hasn't reopened.  (My father is sad since he can't steal cheap steak to feed his dog)

I was wondering if buffets would be a permanent Covid casualty (despite the fact that we have learned that transmission by contacting surfaces is negligible, which we didn't know for sure a year ago at this time).

But I read the buffets were reopening in Vegas, and someone I know on Facebook said they had been to a good buffet (a bit more upscale than Golden Corral) recently.

So maybe buffets will come back after all.

I've never been to GC.   But I enjoy a casino buffet when I'm in Vegas, especially if it's got a lot of seafood/Asian stuff like many of them do.   And right next to the movie theater that is a halfway point between where I live and my sister & brother in law live, there is a Ruby Tuesday's restaurant, so pre-Covid we would occasionally meet for movie + meal, and Ruby Tuesdays actually had a pretty good salad bar that I liked.

So I'm hoping buffets come back eventually.

If they end up having a season in 2022 I expect Davis to get released at the end of spring?  Summer?  training.

If we are lucky enough to have a CBA and Grapefruit League games beginning last couple days of February like usual, I'd be willing to give it to the 2nd plate appearance of the first game again this year.

You comment made it sound like they were throwing Davis out there.  He was still at least a functional player.

Your definition of functional is different than mine.  Certainly could have improved the team by releasing Pujols and finding a waiver wire pickup.

I think that if Davis was going to walk away he'd have done so by now.  I think they are more interested in the expiring CBA.

Oh, ok. I thought you meant Covid but yes, we may all be shut out next year. MUCH angst between the Union and Management.
