Santander, Akin to IL. McKenna and A.Wells recalled

It doesn't really matter since the Orioles aren't any good, but if I was a fan of a decent team that had players missing games due to their decision to not get vaccinated and it potentially cost the team a shot at the playoffs (like the Phillies, for instance), I would call those players selfish and not team players.

Note: unlike with the Phillies players, we don't know whether Akin and Satander are unvaccinated, and the Orioles as a team are 85%+ vaccinated, so it shouldn't affect too many players, but if I was a teammate of a player who put the team's chances in jeopardy by not getting vaccinated, I would be pretty annoyed.

Bob Hayney of 105.7 describes them as "being on the protocol" and implies they woke up with symptoms.   So does that mean they are just awaiting test results and if negative they could be back Friday?

Ashamed really, like Hays, he really has a lot of talent when he's healthy but it's pretty clear he's one of those guys who's body doesn't allow him to stay healthy over a 162 game major league season. 

Yeah, I thought about Diaz but he's not cracked the ML roster.  

It's a shame, I agree.  I like Hays, I like Santander.  These guys just don't hold up and it's sad to see.

Being vaccinated (at least this vaccine) doesn’t stop you from getting the virus, particularly the new variant where, at least with the J and J vaccine, they said it’s basically worthless against the new variants.

So before bashing people for not getting the vaccine, I think we should also acknowledge the facts of it.

It is a shame there wasn’t a better market (or it’s a shame Elias didn’t push for one better) for him last year.  I said it then but trading him should have happened because of his health.

That being said, he can also get healthy and produce and probably have similar value as this past offseason.  Just a matter of whether or not he can do those things.

That is certainly not true. A study suggests that the J&J vaccine may be less effective but "they" didn't say it is basically worthless.

Similar studies seems to suggest that the mRNA vaccines are only slightly less effective against the delta variant, perhaps with an efficacy of 86 percent compared to 90 percent

That is interesting because Hyde said he found out about it last night, which makes me think it was a contact issue not a symptom issue which I believe, thought I could be wrong, only requires non-vaccinated players to enter the protocol.

Well, Bob Hayney talks off the cuff a lot.   I don't think he had all the facts and was probably just blindly speculating.

I hadn't heard that.  So maybe a non playing personnel is positive and those guys had contact with him or her?

You’re right.  Misquoted that. Less effective.  Either way, getting the vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting covid.  It helps with the symptoms.  
 

They also say you aren’t supposed to get it twice, so Santander getting it should be as preventive (or at least close to it) as getting the vaccine itself.

Of course, when it mutates, there isn’t anything you can do until more boosters are made.

Of course I can't find it now, but I read last night that the J/J vaccine has a 33% efficacy rate against the variants. Not worthless but not that effective either.

We don't know that Santander has gotten it a second time yet.   He could be on the list due to contact tracing, or a false positive, I suppose.

If it greatly reduces the symptoms if you do catch it I'd consider it pretty effective.
