What a weird game.  Glad to “walk” it off.

I have never liked the strategy of walking the bases loaded.   It puts too much pressure on the pitcher.

I would have understood it if the pitcher was a very good control pitcher, but that guy was all over the place and clearly had awful command, and the ump wasn't calling any strikes low in the zone when I was watching.  Walking Mancini made sense to set up a DP, but then walking a young free-swinger like Mounty to load the bases made no sense.

In fairness to Mattingly, Okert had only walked one batter in 11 innings before last night, and his historical walk rate is about 3.0 BB/9.   So it’s not like he’s usually the second coming of Tanner Scott.   Still, he definitely looked shaky pitching to Mullins and on the wild pitch while Hays was in the box.   I would’ve left a base open to give Okert some leeway.   Like I said, I rarely like that strategy (for my team) anyway.

The Orioles also caught a break that the Marlins traded away their closer yesterday.  Yimi Garcia has 15 saves on the season, as many as the top 4 on the Orioles bullpen combined.

The life of a "seller".  You get worse before you can (hopefully) get better.
