Honestly, if Termarr signs for - hypothetically - $2 million or so under slot and we use those savings for the next few picks to go over slot, I don't think it's a bad strategy. Especially since we have so many high picks this year.

I like Johnson probably 4th after Holliday, Jones, and Collier, but if his bat turns out to be as special as all the scouts say it is and we wind up with a better starting pitcher or two with picks 2-5, I don't mind the approach. I think Termarr is the only guy who would sign for substantially less than slot because he knows he can fall a bit if he doesn't cut a deal with the Orioles.

Any strategy where you don’t take the best talent on your board is a bad strategy.

I partly agree, but in general, isn't the goal to end up with the MOST talent, as opposed to the single BEST talent?

And I'm in the Jones camp just for reference.

Well if you picked BPA on your board with every pick, theoretically in your eyes, you’d do that every single draft. 
 

Elias has said multiple times he wanted to “maximize” the return with the 2nd biggest draft pool in history. I’m sure that’s the plan.

What's most?

To me most would be the greatest accumulation of MLB wins within the period of team control.

Some years that could be a single player.

If you take BPA guys, that means you take overslot guys frequently and you don't have draft capital.  So do you actually get the MOST talent that way?

It would melt this board down, but I keep looking at Jacob Berry. Berry, Lee and Cross are Elias/Sig kind of guys. I watched some video on Berry, along with some interviews. Best hit/power combo. Not as big as I thought he was, not sure he’s quite 6’0”. But another switch hitter with power, who is a little more athletic than I thought. 

Certainly not the best talent available at 1-1, but if they want an under slot deal on an advanced bat still, Berry might be in play.

Would you rather have two all stars, or four solid players? Where you stand depends on where you sit. The answer depends on your existing depth and how you value the two all stars. They did the depth play a few times now.

But if you can get 30 wins out of two guys or 34 wins out of five guys wouldn't you prefer the former?
