Orioles signing Rougned Odor

Matt Harvey of the middle infield? He hit 15 HR in 300+ ABs. I could see him hit 25 bombs in a contract year at Camden Yards. Was hoping for Harrison. I only hope he doesn't take ABs from Urias.

His brother of the same name (middle names are different) also played pro ball in the Rangers minor leagues for a time, back in 2017.

Not sure I understand this at all. So I guess Urias goes back to utility for the 2022 version of Maikol Franco? This seems like a deal you make last offseason.

Strong defender according to Baseball Savant (+8 OAA last year at 2B, +1 at 3B) but below average according to DRS and UZR. No idea what to make of that.

Not a good hitter at all (career 80 wRC+ vs LHP, 88 wRC+ vs RHP)

He's only 27 still somehow but I'm not seeing the upside here.

Read his wikipedia entry.   He has a brother named Rougned Odor, a minor leaguer in the Rangers organization.

Different middle names.

By the way, the origin of the name is that he is named after a combination of his father "Douglas" and his grandmother "Nedia" but they have a family tradition of naming all the kids names that begin with R so instead of "DougNed" they went with Rougned.

Statcast has his Outs Above Average as excellent, he's only 27, and he played some 3B last year too. I like this signing assuming it's not expensive.

Yet mid season last year the Yankees thought he was a solution to their problem of having no LH bats to speak of and went out and got him and installed him as a starter on a contending team for a while.

Until he played his way out of the lineup.

I was surprised how much the Yankees used him, but that probably had more to do with how desperate they were for any left-handed balance before their Gallo and Rizzo pickups.

Both he and Urias played some 3B last year.

Not a fan of this. All we can do is root for a strong first half and find some sucker to trade for him. I doubt he's going to have much length on his leash though. Hopefully, they cut ties early if he sucks.

Well statcast had him as well above average defensively at 2B. His bat though has been terrible for that last two years. The way he's declined, I wonder if they have his actual birth certificate because he's was an old 27 last year. Unless he was injured, his running speed has fallen off a cliff the last two years.
