Ellis has contract selected/Stewart DFA'd/Diplan optioned

I also have no issue with that because I don’t wanna see him try to gain traction at this level while blocking other OF that I would much rather see. 

Safe chance DJ Stewart wasn’t going to block anyone.

Most teams have players similar to but better than DJ.  If not, they have a similar player to DJ in AAA.  I think O's fans are so used to marginal fans, they think other teams are going to snap up players like Gutierrez, Odor, DJ and even Mateo.

It was long overdue. A team like Oakland or Cincinnati might take a shot at him. I doubt he draws much trade interest. I hope he finds regular at bats somewhere. Maybe a different philosophy will help him. At 28, I wouldn’t say he’s old, but I don’t think that is young.

Stewart will go elsewhere and put up an .850 OPS.

I think Elias trades Stewart for a youngster.   26 HR, 75 R, 73 RBI, 327 OBP in 547 AB are not bad numbers for a major league career.  His option also adds to his value.

Stewart was a prospect I wanted to see make with his OBP abilities, but it never happened. Stewart never hit well enough and he really can't play in the field defensively. 

I wish him well, but I think Stewart likely clears waivers.

Agreed, always liked his approach. He has plenty of opportunities. Time to move on.

I’d love for Stewart to go somewhere and have an opportunity to get steady at bats, but he may not get that chance.   
 

Well he is a zero tool player that was selected in the first round. It was a wasted pick, and even worse he was allowed to hang in the organization for 4+ years just because someone mistakenly used a first round pick on him. I was correct on the day of the draft when I said something to the effect that you don't waste a first round pick on a slow fat corner outfielder who can't throw and hits with such a pronounced crouch that they immediately set about to change his batting mechanics.

Ellis pitched as well as you could have hoped. Maybe it helped calm his nerves only playing in front of an announced attendance of 3,748.

Yep they totally should have picked some toolsy high schooler that would have washed out in A ball instead of someone that provided positive value at the ML level.

I think DJ’s “positive value” is negligible and comparable to a high schooler that washed out in A ball.  And then there is the opportunity cost of continuing to put him out there instead of giving someone else a chance.
