Where can you find pop times? That caught stealing in the 7th last night looked incredibly quick.

He’s top 5 in the majors In pop time.  It was like 1.9 seconds.

Refer to the thread with the video of the MLB network talking about Adley.

I think there's a shot he can catch Julio Rodriguez.

There are going to be voters that won't care that Rutschman was called up later.   But I think there are going to be voters that are intelligent enough to look at what Rutschman has done in the time that he's had and realize he's been more impactful than Rodriguez.

The Orioles record pre-AR: 16 wins and 24 losses playing .400 baseball.

The Orioles record post-AR: 45 wins and 31 losses playing .592 baseball.

Adley seems well-liked by his teammates, but I've wondered if there would be any resentment that he tends to get a lot of credit for the team's turnaround, especially from some guys that have been here for a while.  Last night Kremer was asked about him, and while he was very complementary towards Adley, I just kind of got a bit of a "Yeah he's good but other guys are good too" vibe.  He specifically mentioned that he feels great with both Adley and "Robby" back there.  Could have totally been in my head.

Yea, it’s the worst case scenario.  You lose the year and don’t get the pick.

Isn't the worst case scenario that the sun runs out of hydrogen and begins its transformation into a red supergiant, cooking planet earth but doing it slowly enough that there are years of a hell-like horror across the planet, but quickly enough that we can't develop the technology to leave? And we don't get the pick and lose the extra year.

I don’t think it was in any way derogatory to Rutschman, more so to all the ridiculous questions they get asked night in and night out. I think any irritation would be directed to the media. JMO

Royals rookies - Pasquantino is ahead of Witt now.

Joe Ryan pitching pretty well, but far far behind by rWAR.    He could do Top of Rotation type things and pitch them into the playoffs at like 16-8...that might draw votes even if the WAR not there.

Not sure anyone close to Julio, Pena and Adley as the 3 guys for 2 spots.     All those HOU-BAL games lot of chances for voters to see Pena and Adley on the same field.

These are fun numbers to kick around but we all know that baseball isn't constructed the way basketball or football is where you can dish to Michael Jordan for 30 shots a game or have Aaron Rodgers throw it 35+ times.

It's a little different for Rutschman since he's a catcher and he's done, by all accounts, a fantastic job of handling the pitchers, framing pitches, etc.  How much of the staff turnaround is due to him?  Hard to say.  But since he's arrived other guys have been playing well, too.

It's definitely easier and more romantic to say that this is all due to Adley's presence, though.

Pretty sure worst case scenario involves MLB declaring Adley a free agent and him signing with the Yankees.

Remember how Manny was the huge key to the 2012 stretch run and the emergence of Chis Davis kept the 2013 Orioles from total collapse, and then Manny missed the whole second half of 2014 and Davis was bad and then got a PED suspension and they won 96 games?

Pretty sure the success of that team was due to Steve Lombardozzi and Jimmy Paredes.

I wonder how many more games we would have won up to this point if he didn't get hurt and was on the opening day roster?

Yeah, that injury might have cost us a chance at the division and meant we have to settle for a wild card.

And anyone who said that at the time of the injury would have been laughed off the board!

It's still pushing the limits of credibility.  Let's assume optimistically that Rutschman plays at the same rate but in 35 more games, while Chirinos gets docked 2/3rds of his playing time.  That puts Rutschman at 4.5 WAR, Chirinos at maybe -0.2 or -0.5 instead of Fangraphs' -1.2.  So the O's get 2-3 additional wins, and they're now 10.5 out of first.  So they'd be sitting about 7-8 games out with Rutschman in the lineup from opening day.

The only way they win the division in this scenario is if the Yanks have a terrible rest of August and September while the O's surge.

    • Smith and Bowman signed Milb contacts, stop period. which means if they not have 6 years MLB service they make minor league money if they are in the minors. Albert signed a one guarenteed contract, 740k. Itwas A Milb contract to keep him off the 40. Even if he got DFA or never pitched one inning of MLB he still makes the 740k. He was good enough to demand this contract and get it. Smith and Bowman were not.
    • Just because you sign as a free agent doesn’t mean you aren’t subject to the rules around 6 years of service time. For instance, I don’t believe Burch Smith or Matt Bowman can elect free agency unless they are outrighted, released, or non-tendered. However, there are examples of foreign professionals being eligible to elect free agency early - for example Shintaro Fujinama last year.  It’s not part of the CBA, but presumably the commissioner will approve that special covenant as part of an FA deal if the player has at least 6 years of experience in foreign league.  It’s possible they would let Suarez combine his 1 year MLB service time (prior to this season) with his 3 years in NPB and 2 years in KBO.  And it’s possible they let Suarez write these terms into an MILB contract that had split MLB terms.  It wouldn’t have been my starting assumption, but it seems plausible.
    • Here I am checking in. We and our condo on the east side of Asheville made it through unscathed. On Tuesday we flew into DC and moved into a hotel in Falls Church. Our son, Eric, ordered us to make that trip and made all the arrangements because we had no internet and limited cell service. We expected to stay a week while electricity is restored and then we learned about the dire water situation. We are moving in with Eric and his family who have been supporting us in every way possible, anticipating needs and things that would help us. Our daughter, Robyn, and her husband, Ken live about 30 miles west of Asheville , Waynesville, had no damage, never lost power or water. Today they rescued my car from $30 a day hourly parking, threw out everything that was beginning to make the condo stink and tied up  a few ends we left loose when we left Dodge in a hurry. They are, collectively, the loving, supportive family everyone should want and have .
    • You should really try to read. It will make you less slow.
    • Just pointing out that not everyone wanted Adley extended last year.
    • Hopefully he will spend money to keep guys long term.    This was a puff piece.
    • At least Joe Jackson seemed to be a decent human.
