Updated schedules remaining and standings thru 8/28

LAA sweeping TOR was huge along with TB losing 2/3 in BOS.  MINN swept SFG. CWS swept by ARZ.

I tried to set the schedules by weeks. There are 5.5 weeks left.

CLE leads MINN by 2.0 in ALC. CLE/MINN play each other 8 times. We all know TOR/TB play each other 9 times.

Amazing that no matter how much we win, we continue to be 2.5 games out of the wild card.  Like math sorcery that the only way to pick up ground in playoff positioning is for all 3 teams above us to lose while we win.

Thankfully that happened yesterday. And it certainly helped us that the Angels swept the Jays this weekend. Our upcoming series against the Jays (including the Labor Day doubleheader) will be huge.

Crossroads for us in next two games.. now we are 3 back, Minnesota will pass us if we lose, teams ahead of us have all won last games

we could be five out of a playoff spot and behind Minnesota by Friday

We have to get at least one in Cleveland. And with out question have to go on to sweep OAK this weekend. Hope to be w/in 2-3 games of TOR heading into Monday. Anything more and it's pretty much over with. We're not sweeping 5 games from TOR, so we need to be w/ in 2-3 games and hopefully go 4-1/3-2 against them.

I really thought the Twins were out of it and it would just be us trying to sneak into the top 3 but now we have to deal with them as well.

Updated thru 9/2 . Also added total games remaining.

I decided to leave BOS on the list. I enjoy seeing them in last. CWS I kept as well.

ORIOLES lost season series to SEA, MINN, TB,

ORIOLES won season series vs CWS. Split season series with CLE. As SteveA pointed out on another thread due to division record BAL is in trouble with CLE as well. Currently up on TOR 6-3.

This weekend has some head to head matchups

NYY @TB  (3)

SEA @ CLE (3)

MINN @ CWS (3)

BAL is in reality 4.5 behind TB and SEA due to the tiebreaker. Root for NYY and CWS. SEA/CLE is an interesting series. BAL could benefit if either team sweeps depending on how you frame it. CLE currently has 1.0 game lead over MINN.

updated Thru 9/4

Crazy week in ALC.  SEA sweeps CLE. CWS take 2/3 from MINN. MINN and CLE are now tied. CWS only 2 out. MINN/CLE play 8 more times. CWS play CLE 4 and MINN 6 more times.

NYY won today to avoid a sweep in TB. NYY up 5.0 over TB, 4 in loss column. BOS has won 5 straight but still 1 game under .500.

Hard to fathom at this point how the 2nd place team in ALC can chase down the 3rd place team in AL East. Considering their records and head to head matchups remaining.  BAL needs 4 wins vs TOR to win a head to head tiebreaker if applicable.
Seems to be a simple path for the ORIOLES. Finish in 3rd place.

SEA can play .500 rest of way and they have 90 wins.

Reminder TB/TOR play 9 more times

I’m a White Sox fan. We suck and have had a shit season. The AL Central is an absolute joke and you guys deserve the 6-seed, and the winner of this atrocity of a division certainly doesn’t deserve the 3-seed. Next year, divisions should not exist. Stack the 15 teams. Top 6 make the postseason. Period.

Orioles need to gain 8 games in loss column vs TB, 6 vs Seattle, TOR 5 games if Orioles win season series which is 7-6 BAL now.

Last stand for the Orioles. Odds stacked against to say the least. They have a couple of things going for them.

-only real WC contender left

-play Jays 6 more games

-TB/TOR play 9 more games

If and after this past series it’s a huge if, they play well in the next 5 they have a legit change headed into TOR. Example Orioles go 4-1 and TOR goes 5-3 thru 9/15 the Orioles would be 3 out in loss column going into TOR. Bottom line the next 5 games will determine if the JAYS series next weekend has much meaning or not
