I think the spot in their lineup was a place for right hander with  5 straight right hand hitters.  He probably wanted Akin in next inning with Alvarez, Bergman, and Tucker so good spot for lefty with 2 lefties they have in lineup.  Most likely wanted Krehbal to work through bottom of order and righties.  Then use Akin in the sixth so he could have Perez for that spot in the 8th if he needed him.  Now he going to have to find another guy to get through the Alvarez Tucker area.

For LA2, to save him the trouble of asking “what happened?” - Mateo hits a nubber up the first base line, Valdez grabs it with his glove and then tosses it from his glove to 1B in time to beat him out, with a tricky angle too.

If that throw would’ve been on target he’d have been out at second by a mile. I was so glad he stopped after rounding first!

I was talking about him running out of the box, not after he reached first.
