  1. 1. Are the Orioles done?

    • Yep - no more 40-man roster additions. They're rolling with who they have now.
    • Basically - maybe an O'Hearn type or two, but nothing serious.
    • Nah - I still think they'll sign a Wacha/Cueto/Greinke type starting pitcher.
    • Nah - big trade incoming that will reshape this off-season.

Twenty people believe there’s a trade before the season that changed the offseason?

Hmm

I said it when Elias was hired. Nothing of any significance will change until there’s new ownership.

Actually, I questioned his ability to perform his duties with the current ownership. I’m still waiting for an impact signing. However, I think they may have a chance with the young guys. Of course, that assumes a big season from Adley, Gunnar and GrayRod and it’s likely at least one of that group has growing pains.

I also hope Hall gets a real shot as a SP. Too many people didn’t recognize the strides he made in season and he’s always been a starter. His stint in the pen was useful, but that kid has electric stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, Elias has been ok, but how much could he do if they loosened the purse strings? Yes, I know, the Frazier signing, but how bout that Gibson guy!

Nice to see you drop by.  That poll is 5 weeks old, and before the Irvin trade.  I doubt many people are expecting a trade that significantly changes the offseason now.  I’m not implying that the Irvin trade was that significant, just that the trade made another, more significant trade for pitching less likely (plus it’s much later in the offseason now).

If Irvin gets 20+ starts (and it looks like he will) the trade will have been significant, like it or not.  Might not be a big FA signing like we were all hoping for but it'll have had a significant impact on this team for this year.

Not too much out there in the remaining FA. 4th bench options to compete with Vavra could be an a option. The best fits look like Peralta, Dickerson, and Bradley, if we wanted to go the LH OF bat option. Profar is still out there. Sano, Voit, Gurriel, are out there too, if we wanted to go the 1B/DH option, but they are RH.

I imagine the waiver wire won’t have as good quality since it seems like every team has a guy or two to put on the 60 day IL.

I expect to see some movement on the remaining bats and RPs after 2/15. Profar still could be an option for us.

Thanks….wonder who is affected most by that trade. Will Irvin and Gibson be traded if the young guys are doing well and the team is competitive? I doubt it.

Does 60-day IL reactivate next week the very first day camps open?

By this point as tight a ship as Elias runs and as precious as he is about roster spots, if he has one more transaction buying Talent for $$$ I don't rule out that its already a tacit agreement with Profar, Wacha, Moore/Chafin, whoever, and he simply doesn't want to DFA someone because he doesn't have to.

I still think Profar fits more than it seems until you take a deeper dive.

1. He’s a 29 yo SH that showed really good OBP skills last year. His LH power should play up in OPACY.

2. He kicks Santander to permanent DH. That’s the best way to maximize Santander’s bat and health. Also, overall team defense.

3. We don’t have to rush Cowser, or a Westburg/Norby OF conversion.

4. That frees up Cowser to be traded for a TOR SP at the deadline, with Profar helping to bridge the gap to Kjerstad, Mayo, Beavers, and Fabian.

5. We aren’t forced to roll with not ideal fits. Like Vavra, or signing RH FA like Sano/Voit. And having to play Santander in RF.

There’s really no such thing as a “bad” one year deal. If we need to go for two to sign him, with option possibilities, then it gets tricky.
