I see you drop DHernandez from orange to yellow. I know everybody has him destined to the bullpen, but is there a chance he could be used in the closer role? I still have hope that he will be a viable 3rd or 4th starter in the future. I believe this year will be important for him to harness his command so he could be a starter.

Yesterday Aaron Odom was at a family funeral and he received a call from the Orioles saying he had to take a drug test and take it by five or it would go down as a positive, So Aaron had to leave the funeral and drive to Houston 3 hours away, but 5 min. before he got there Dave Stockstill called and said he was released, but said he could still take the test incase someone picked him up. In the winter meetings Aaron was talked very highly about from his coaches and managers I gatherd from very good sources. Dave said for his age of 24 he needed to be in A+ ball. I have enjoyed jawing with yall through the 2008 season. Aaron said The Orioles coaches and staff have been very good to him. Good luck to the Orioles in 2009.

What is it about Reimold that makes him the same level prospect as Chris Waters? Why is he going backwards in your view?

I can reasonably assume it's his age-- he's getting to the point now where he's a AAAA outfielder, because the Orioles seem to be really down on him as a major leaguer.

Seriously? Did he explain that he was at a funeral? This seems like a terrible thing to do. Force someone to leave their family in a time of need and get released 5 minutes before arriving??? This makes me lose some respect for the Orioles organization!!! This is horrible.

I think drug tests are ordered by MLB/MiLB - not the clubs. The clubs would have a bit of a conflict of interest, doncha think?

Tony, any chance Rosa starts/finishes in Aberdeen? Rosa did very well in the GCL last season, and was promoted to Aberdeen at the end of the season. Pedro Florimon has stuck up Delmarva the past two seasons, Rosa is certainly a better bet than any other options we have.. If Avery is going to be promoted to Delmarva, why not Rosa? It would be nice to keep Rosa and Hoes together as a 2B/SS combo throughout the minors.

I'd like to think Rosa would get a chance to start out at Aberdeen but his plate discipline was down right atrocious last year and that suggests he'll need more fine tuning at Bluefield. You never know though, a good spring could have him in Aberdeen. I'm hearing Florimon will get a look at Frederick and Miclat will be at Delmarva although I'd have them switched if it were me.

Donnie Murphy a better prospect than Scott Moore?

Murphy hasn't had near the success that Moore has had...

Remember, don't get caught up too much in the colors. Murphy can play some shortstop so that gives him some value as a utility guy. Moore has yet to show he can produce in limited at bats and his poor year last year really hurt his overall prospect value. He doesn't hit enough to be a corner guy and he can't play defense good enough to be in the middle of the diamond. So, what's his value to a major league club? At least Murphy can supposedly catch the ball a little in the middle of the diamond. That gives him Brandon Fahey type value.

Tony,

You really think that Salazar will make it through waivers? That is the only way he going to Norfolk again.

What is it about Reimold that makes him the same level prospect as Chris Waters? Why is he going backwards in your view?

Salazar is the kind of guy that passes through waivers all the time. As much as I'd like to see him get a shot to be a bench guy with Baltimore, I think the O's are going to end up going with a 13-man pitching staff which leaves a bench of backup catcher, Freel, and Gomez.

I just think Reimold is going to end up a platoon-type outfielder who may get a chance to get 400 at bats one year and may have a decent 25 homer-run season. I don't see him as a regular option although he still might surprise.

Waters showed me he could be a fifth starter/swingman type. I don't think he'll make the team with Hendrickson now signed, but he's a backup option. It seems strange to say so, but I don't think there's a ton of difference between them on their overall value although I do think Reimold is still higher.

    • I was going to post something about this after reading about that on MLBTR this morning. That gives me a lot of hope for Bradish if this kid can come back from a UCL sprain and throw 103. Obviously, reliever vs. starter so who knows. But uplifting to read nonetheless.
    • Hollocher hit almost exclusively 2nd in the order. The Cubs' 3rd hitters (and it was the Cubs, not the Indians as I previously stated) were mostly Marty Krug, Zeb Terry, and John Kelleher. Krug was awful for a 1922 3rd-place hitter, with an 83 OPS+ in his only season as a MLB regular, but he only struck out 43 times in 524 PAs. Terry was worse, OPS+ing 74, but with just 16 Ks in 571 PAs. And Kelleher was the worst of the bunch, OPS+ing 60, while striking out 14 times in 222 PAs. Cubs manager Reindeer Bill Killefer stuck hard and fast to the old rule of thumb that the catcher should bat 8th, even if it's Bob O'Farrell and he hit .324 with an .880 OPS. Ray Grimes had a 1.014 OPS and batted cleanup. But Hack Miller and his .899 OPS batted mostly 6th. Statz wasn't a terrible leadoff hitter, was one of only a couple players who had a SB% higher than 50%, but was 6th among their regulars in OBP. That's as bad a bunch of #3 hitters as I've seen in a while, yet the Cubs finished 80-74-2. Just goes to show you batting order doesn't really matter. Anyway, back to the main point... yes, I'm sure some of Hollocher's CS were busted hit-and-runs. But nobody that regularly batted behind him struck out in even 7% of PAs so they shoulda been putting the ball in play the vast majority of the time.
    • Bobby needs to git gud.
    • How many people actually said they were one of the greatest teams ever?   They did hit the snot out of the ball the first 9 games of the year, mostly in a 6 game series in a very hitter-friendly ball park against a bad pitching staff.  That said, they’re still second in the league in runs per game.  Their pitching has been problematic, yielding 6.50 runs per game.
    • Gunnar’s base running is in the 99th percentile.  That mess is in the 98th percentile.
    • Yeah, the highlighted section here is really why I agree that the O's will look to minimize losing players to waivers just yet. Things could blow up on them pretty quick. There's a ton of risk with these moves, but they have to find out. The best way to do that is to utilize the options for Akin and Tate, IMO. We'll see!
