I was just going over the chart again, and I was wondering why Cooney is in the pen an not the closer? He was the closer last year in Aberdeen, I don't think he will be there again. Unless you know something I don't of course.

Cooney could certainly be in the mix for closer or it might be Kantekavich or Barejas or several other guys. I wouldn't read too much into the closer's role on the depth chart or even what team they are projected to as relievers can easily fill in at different levels and roles.

Why isn't Justin Turner starting at AAA? I am positive that he was listed as the starting 2B at AAA.

Not sure where he was listed as a starter since there is no official announcement on where guys will be going this early. He may have placed on the AAA roster for protection purposes for the Rule 5 draft, but I feel the way Stockstill does things that he'll want to see him get some more at bats at Bowie.

Tony, is the optimism around Beato warranted? Is there a genuine feeling he is healthy/turned a corner/fixed the problem and is ready to regain serious prospect status?

If he is throwing the gas people say he is, perhaps that is the case, but it's hard to believe after he has been so mediocre since being drafted.

I certainly hope so. This is a huge year for him and if he really did lose that weight and has turned the corner on keeping himself in shape, than he's got a chance to regain his previous prospect status. Only his performance this year will answer your question though. However, he'll be one of the guys I'm interested in seeing this spring.

One name not appearing on the list is Anthony Martinez. He had an average season in Delmarva, but he's not on the list. Does he fit into the list? Which position too, because if I remember correctly he was playing some left field.

Tony, wondering your thoughts on 1B Joe Mahoney. Obviously he had a terrible year last year, have you heard any news on him?

I think both will have to have very, very good springs to see much paying time in Frederick. It would not surprise me if Martinez was released this spring due to his age and Mahoney may repeat Delmarva.

Mahoney's large swing hurt him last year so hopefully he worked over the off season to shorten it up. I'll let you know what I hear about him this spring.

Tony, could you update the organiztional chart? I noticed a few changes.

-Freddy Deza is at AAA

-Bent and Kirbis no longer on Aberdeen.(released?)

-Esposito and Cooney (closer) not Allar

-C. Allen is in Delmarva pen not Aberdeen.

-Bascom is starting now

-Flagello and Lebron (closer) not Bascom

Thanks Tony!

I am surprised to see Reimold listed as a B-. I would think after the past year he would have been a B. You have Snyder at B. You think Snyder has a higher ceiling than Reimold? That is a tough one.

One thing to remember with those colors is that they are preliminary during the season and most were given last year. I could see Reimold jumping back into the Orange with his start at AAA, but I usually give guys two months before changing their colors unless it's really obvious they need to change. As for Snyder over Reimold, I did have Snyder over Reimold on my top prospect list last year so yes, I do think he has a slightly higher ceiling.
