Did they say if it’s been lingering or if it’s new?  He’s off to a slow start after a great WBC, wonder if he tweaked something after the WBC?

IIRC, they said "dealing with" but didn't give a time frame.

Who is missing from the lineup that should be in there?

Santander and Stowers. There’s no reason Vavra should be getting RF ABs over Stowers. If Santander is banged up that is understandable.

The little things are hurting us this year. Vavra over Stowers. RH CF depth. RH relief depth.

How about the big thing, starting pitching?

Not sure I understand Gunnar batting cleanup with his struggles at the plate.

Mixing LH and RH up. Then if they bring a lefty in to face the 3 straight lefties 6-8 in order Hyde can pinch hit if he wants to. Doesn’t want to take Gunnar out of game. Plus hits RHP better.

This isn't directed at you, or even this topic. Just a broad observation of fans reactions every single day this year so far to everything....

We are starting to act like Yankee fans where we expect perfection and negatively overreact to everything that isn't LOL.

I'm that high on Varva. I love his plate discipline/swing decisions. But I think he can overpowered up in the zone.

But I like that they are giving him an extended look against RH pitching.

Of course, I'm with most who would prefer Stowers. But at least, see what you have in him before moving on.

Today I think McCann should get a start so Adley can catch for Grayson tommorrow. This means DH goes to Adley. Which means RF would have to go to Santander, but is his back feeling OK enough to play the field? Maybe they put O'hearn or Vavra or Frazier in RF instead. Also curious to see what happens with Hays after he was grimacing in pain yesterday.

They could also just give Adley his first day off of the year. (Outside of scheduled off days)

    • You cannot bring up McDermott (25 years old) and discuss his one great quality and act like you have no idea why he hasn't been recalled.  One look at his numbers shows you plenty. He has thrown 70.1 IP, making 14 starts. That's 5 IP/start.  3.84 ERA, 1.464 WHIP, 5.5 BB/9, 12.9 K/9.  He has issues walking too many batters.  So, while he strikes out batters at a great rate, he also walks far too many, raising his AAA WHIP to 1.464.  That does not project well to the majors.
    • No one’s ever accused me of choking and bludgeoning them unconscious before. At the very best he makes extremely poor decisions about whom to associate with. That’s at the very best.
    • When a team loses 4 in a row the GM looks for where to improve. Hays.   .500.  2-4  2B Adley    .462  6-13.  2B Mullins   .417   5-12 2B, 3B Westburg .313  5-16.  3HR Gunnar  .272   3-11  2 HR Santander  .235  4-17 HR O'Hearn      .230   3-13 Mountcastle  .188    3-16 2B Mateo       . 125   1-8    HR McCann    .000   0-3 Cowser.   .000.   0-11 Urias         .000     0-13   Holliday would be the answer but he is on the IL.   Mayo?  More Hays, Less Cowser.   Mullins gets his everyday job back in CF.  Kjerstad would seem to take DH at bats from O'Hearn and Santander.  Santander is hitting .106 as a DH.  Mountcastle may need rest but that will hurt the defense.
    • Nightengale does not expect Luzardo to be traded because he went on the IL with a back problem.
    • .271/.758 in June after .136/.344 in May. Great to see him hitting again. I agree about the defense but he really can't afford too many months like May. He is up to 0.7 WAR which is impressive for as bad as he has been with the bat.
    • Consent ends when the ability to give consent ends.  For instance if someone is choked unconscious.
    • Mid-80's Don Aase rates a shoutout.    Modern tools I can in a few clicks find for 1985-86 fWAR gives him 7th MLB-wide as RP. It was as the Orioles were halfway from Cal celebrating with Eddie how it is great to be a young and a Baltimore Oriole and 0-21, but as a kid I remember him seeming a notch better than Tippy or Sammy or Stoddard. I learned today he collected the one win the Angels got in the 1979 ALCS.
