There is always room if you want it to be.

You have 14 spots after 9/1.  You have your current 6 starters.  Next is Bautista, Cano, Webb, Means, Wells, Perez, Couloumbe, and Fuji.  Who goes for Hall?

And the above is with Voth being cut.

Fuji…or maybe you don’t have 6 starters anymore, which I don’t think they will. Maybe Irvin goes down. Or maybe they shut down Grayson. Or maybe Hall doesn’t come immediately but does as the month goes on.

The point is, if they believe Hall is one of the best guys and he can help them where they need the most help, they will find a way to get him here.

There is no reason to believe Hall is better than those guys.  Irvin has a  less than 2.00 ERA since he came back.

There is plenty of reason to think he is or at least can be. Elias clearly believes it too or else he wouldn’t have him relieving right now to see if he can help the team down the stretch.

Only the next month matters.  He has to clearly be an improvement.

Since he came back from the minors? Since June 10 he has a 3.00 ERA. He's pitched well enough. He's striking out 8 batters per 9 in that timeframe. Hall is striking out 22 batters per 9 in the last month (a small sample size of 10.2 innings).

I don't know what kind of value Irvin would have in the playoffs outside of long relief. I think a healthy Means would have priority over Irvin. Not sure how many starters/long relief guys you really want on your playoff roster.

Yea that’s really the key. Playoff bullpens are just different.

I could be in the minority here but I don't think I am trusting Means during a playoff run.  It will take him a while to get everything back and that is assuming he does get everything back.  I would go with the guys that were instrumental in getting us to the playoffs.  Means will get his opportunity next season.

I don't really disagree with you, but it seems like the O's are intent on pushing Means back.
