Bautista apparently has nicknamed Cano “the Rock,” but I like Trench Cannon way better.   

Odd nickname, usually used in conjunction with a Russian artillery piece, the M1915.  It was small enough to fit into a machine gun emplacement and had a range of about a mile.

The normal weapon for clearing trenches in WWI was the shotgun.

Everyone seems to pronounce his name Canó, but on the jersey it is Cano. Are we all just slightly mispronouncing his name or does he like the added oomph?

This dude has completely changed our bullpen around. He’s allowed everyone to settle into their best fitting roles, taken pressure off of a struggling Perez, allowed Bautista to rest, and made Gilaspie up/down depth.

Again, it’s not just Cano.  Baumann has been really good as well as.  Baker.  We have depth at the back of the bullpen.   The more the merrier.

I don’t think they put accent marks on uniforms, do they?  For example?

But I am unsure if MLB teams routinely try to proactively get it correct, or if they depend on a starry eyed young kid to tell them the correct pronunciation. As far as I can tell, it can be either Canó or Cano. If it is Canó they should change the uniform...or vice versa.

Well, it can be either one or the other, the pronunciation is quite different according, and it seems to be Canó.

Anyways, I said when we traded López that I can imagine there's some confidence that we can turn Canó into something like López, given how good of an arm he was, and that was probably behind the decision to pull the trigger. Good thing it's worked out that way, it seems.
