Five guys with a .900+ OPS, and another at .877, and the team is currently putting up a .750 winning %. The 2023 Norfolk Tides are the AAA version of the 2023 Rays.

Fixed that for you.

Time for a check on the Tides’ rotation, going in order of IP:

Bruce Zimmermann 6 starts, 32.2 IP, 3.58 ERA, 1.316 WHIP, 9.9 K/9, 2.6 K/BB

Drew Rom 6 starts, 31.1 IP, 2.87 ERA, 1.245 WHiP, 9.2 K/9, 3.2 K/BB

Cole Irvin 5 starts, 31.0 IP, 3.19 ERA, 1.194 WHIP, 4.9 K/9, 4.25 K/BB

DL Hall 6 starts, 27.2 IP, 3.29 ERA, 1.317 WHIP, 12.2 K/9, 2.6 K/BB

The fifth spot has been rotated around between the injured Spenser Watkins (3 starts, 4.15 ERA), Ryan Watson (6 games, 3 starts, 2.95 ERA), Noah Denoyer (7 games, 3 starts, 4,82 ERA) and Chris Vallimont (6 games, 2 starts, 2.66 ERA).

All in all, it’s a solid group.  Irvin seems to have gotten his command back and is routinely getting deep into games.  My guess is he’d be first up if the O’s wanted to switch out a starter, despite his criminally low K/9.

Eventually one of the Norfolk starters will need to move somewhere to make room for Povich. I know there's usually some debate on getting x number of innings or AB's before a promotion, but he's looking like he's "mastered" the AA level.

Irvin's low K/9 pared with the high K/BB, solid WHIP, and ERA is impressive in a non-wow factor sort of way.  Is he the Frazier of the pitching staff in the sense that he defies the EV/Spin Rate/LA/etc. metrics and just contributes in his own way?

I’m making this point in multiple threads, but Povich threw 6 games in Bowie last year and 6 this year and literally has never had two good outings in a row.  So far as I’m concerned, he hasn’t “mastered” anything until he’s consistently dominating.

What are the Orioles’ criteria?   Well, in 2021 Grayson Rodriguez threw 18 games at Bowie at a 2.94 ERA, 0.866 WHIP, 13.7 K/9, 5.5 K/BB and never got promoted out of Bowie.   So I’m not expecting Povich to go anywhere real soon.

You're probably right. His K numbers look good and he's had his moments for sure. I wouldn't expect a promotion until the end of July.
