Not knocking his defense at all, he's awesome out there. And his speed terrorizes other teams.

On a team without many infield prospects and with a ton of juice in the lineup, I think you can trot him out there. But as of now, I just don't think this offense as a whole has the consistency to justify his bat in there anymore. He would be awesome as a pinch runner/defender in high-leverage spots.

What makes you think there aren’t?   And maybe there would be even more if they had role models growing up that looked similar to them in those positions so they thought it might be available to them.   Like it or not, minorities knew that certain jobs were off limits to them, so it made little sense to dream or try.  Thankfully things have gotten much better, but let’s not pretend that the past means nothing.

Oh was it? You very much could be right. Melanie completely botched the call in real time, and I never saw another angle. I did think it was strange because Mateo is a good baserunner.
