O'Hearn has a 864 OPS and you want to options him?   He is one of the few guys that are hitting.

And the 53 at bats he's had this season are somehow more telling than the thousand he's had for his career?

A guy on a hot streak is just that, a guy on a hot streak.  Almost always players regress to career averages.

He was bad in 2019.

He was bad in 2020.

He was bad in 2021.

He was bad in 2022.

Bassitt signed 3 years  63 Million. A fourth year (the Baltimore year) now comes to  4 year 84 million, if he even wanted to play in Baltimore, remember its not an auction.  So say 21 million Frazier/Givens/Irvin are not making anywhere Nere  that In  addition  Bassit does not play second base or pitch out of the bullpen, Yea i know neither does Givens that because Hès IL If your going to do an analysis you need to Analize all the Data not just the data you like (that's storytelling) Ok I get it Bassit is not here neither is Rodon or Degrom how that work out well time will tell with Rodon, in the meantime they saved a 100   on the nom Degrom signing.

WTH is the Baltimore year?

How long have been following the Orioles You dont remember Jimenez, Gillado and Cobb. If memory serves the all cost us 4 years, Well documented on this Board and all were bad signings

Oh I get it.  You accuse someone else of storytelling and then decide to make up a fact in the same post.

Cool.

Now I'm not sure who Gillado is but Gallardo signed for two years.

Cool.

I responded to 2 different Posters  In my first response the poster said Frazier Givens and Irvin cost more than 21 million a year when in reality they cost closer to half  what Bassitt cost. If that's not story telling what is? In response to your post you represented that that you were unaware of the higher cost of bring pitchers to Baltimore, which I corrected. you are well aware of what the 4th year referenced.

It's storytelling.  The current situation isn't analogous to the prior one.  Different FO, owner, team, schedule and ballpark configuration.

Also, who was that third player you mentioned?

They should play him while he is hot.

Same Team. Different owner? so instead of Peter its John running things, which many will tell there is even less money. Obviously different era but  not holding  my breath for Alomar Palmiero Myers Bonilla Key Carter Tejada ETc type additions to the payroll

Every single player on the roster is different = different team.  Different owner was concerning the physicals, which did hurt.

I have no idea if he would have entertained an offer from the O's, but the O's have to be a more attractive target to free agent pitchers now compared to the Duquette era.  Heck just the changes to the ballpark and facing the rest of the AL East less often have to be big gains.

Obviously we've seen no evidence that the current owner will write the check needed and I have my doubts in that regard.

Moves that need to be made for the long term…

Mckenna to AAA

Mountcastle to AAA or Urias to IL

Cowser promoted

Westburg promoted, added to 40 man

Perez DFA

Voth DFA

Vespi promoted(optionable arm)

Gilaspie promoted(optionable arm)

Open 40 spot for bullpen fresh arm cycle

Wow, it's scary to imagine what you'd suggest once the Orioles fall into a true losing streak.

Let's bring up Ortiz, Cowser and Westburg, try to jump start the offence

Option Mckenna and O'hearn

DFA Lester

Mateo, Frazier and Urias to the bench for now.

3B-Gunnar

SS-Ortiz

2B-Westburg

(or whatever is best defensively)

Cowser in RF

Frazier can get spot starts here and there

I am not happy about losing O'hearn and having to play Mountcastle more but I would put Santander at 1B more often (Did Westburg ever play 1B in the minors?)

This is a recipe for Hyde "losing the clubhouse" and the team looking like panicked fowl instead of Orioles.

    • Not trying to be naive or contradictory, but are we sure that he's swinging at bad pitches?
    • I tend to agree, I'm not convinced. Cowser had hand/nerve stuff and continued to play his game. Westburg broke his hand, came back, and looked good. Not sure why getting hit on the hand suddenly made Adley swing at trash out of the zone.
    • I hate that Adley getting hit on the hand is the excuse why he kept playing and his season went down the crapper, yet Italian Breakfast gets hit on the hand, breaks his thumb and works his ass off to get back to his team in time for the playoffs.    I’m a 50% believer that Adley getting hit on the hand is the reason that he was so bad towards the end of the season, but it still doesn’t explain the drop in OBP. He’s getting down to Adam Jones levels of on base percentage.  His approach seems to be totally different than when he first came up. A hurt hand doesn’t have anything to do with that.
    • I watched both the Elias and Hyde press conferences in full and they both get weird around the Adley question. You can feel the hesitation on saying it's not an injury, and the way they kind of squirm around the question. If we can point to the HBP then surely they can do and would have done MRIs if Adley still felt iffy after the x-ray. Unless he's truly hiding it. But it sure feels like all parties know about something and for some reason that makes no sense to me, they aren't divulging it.
    • They might not even know. Initial x-rays were negative, it's possible that Adley thought he could just play through it and maybe it wasn't painful, just fatigued? Who knows. But unless Adley tells them (assuming they're not hiding it), nothing they can really do. Wonder if Adley just felt the All Star Break was coming up, so he'd just deal.  I think it's way too obvious of a data point to ignore, personally.
    • One interesting thing is I think he homered later that game and it was his last for a while.
    • Roster-wise and money-availability-wise, yes, the Orioles are the best fit of the 30 teams.  Location-wise and track-record-of-spending-wise, not so much.  I kind of think SF is the team. Posey just meddled in the terrible signing of Chapman, as former player GMs often do, and I could see him going hard after a big signing and overpaying like hell for him.
