I agree he used poor technique and misplayed it. I also think it was a wild pitch that an average catcher misses 60% of the time. I didn't see it as a play worth getting upset about. You disagree but I'm not sure what I said to deserve profanity and all caps.

Did you not see the reason? The whole, "bet you guys couldn't do it" was the ridiculous part. I could really care less that you or others think it shouldn't of been blocked. that doesn't bother me, what bothers me was your attitude or "You cant do it either" like it mattered.

I'm 53 years old and haven't caught a game in ten years. Of course I couldn't block that ball. I would have jumped out of the way of a 97 MPH fastball in the dirt! :D

But the issue at hand was whether a major league catcher should have used proper technique to attempt to block that ball. Had he used proper technique and it squirted away, then you chalk it up to a bad bounce. When he lazily backhands it, when we've seen him do that too much this season is the issue at hand.

You're just embarrassing yourself now. Quit while you're behind perhaps? Maybe pull out the tough guy schtick and ban me, you know, a paying member in good standing over 15 years, but whatever man, this is your house and you can trash it any way you like and anyone who is in it.

I'm not going to ban you because I don't agree with you or got into it with you int ehg game thread. Stop being so dramatic.

Actually though. A flamethrowing lefty out of the pen would possibly give us 7th/8th/9th guys, and it wouldn't cost all that much compared to the people who want to trade for a top of the rotation guy.

I think it’s much more likely they trade for an elite reliever than an elite starter.

97 spiked into the dirt, you anticipate that bounce with 100% accuracy and get back to me. Adley is $$$ on blocking pitches, no catcher is 100% in that area.

I agree it was a tough pitch to block. But he didn’t square up on it and he didn’t have his glove in the proper position.

He didn’t get in front of it.

Frobby recently talked about how the stats say he was the best at preventing WP last year and this year, he isn’t nearly as good.

I think that was a perfect example of why.

Now, even if he did everything right, it’s not a guarantee that it would have been blocked but the chances would have been much higher had he used proper technique.

In the playoffs we could get 6 innings easy out of Chapman Cano Bautista. We wouldn't need a starter.

    • A question precedes #2: when will the left field wall be fixed?  I think I remember Elias saying they probably went too far, which is quite literally true.  No reason they can't fix it quickly.  I had no problem with them moving it back but it is pretty absurd where it is.
    • On #3, I would guess that Elias is very wary about going longer than 3 years for a starting pitcher (maybe four years if pitcher is younger and AAV is favorable).  I think Mike and Sig believe the history of long-term SP deals isn’t favorable and the wrong deal could derail a mid-market team with dead money.  I’m not sure they are wrong (e.g., Patrick Corbin, Strasberg).   I don’t think ownership cares directly; I would guess they just give Elias an annual baseball ops budget and forecast and he can choose how he manages against that.   Not in play Gerrit Cole Corbin Burnes Max Fried Blake Snell Jack Flaherty    Possible free agent targets Yusei Kikuchi Nathan Eovaldi Nick Pivetta Sean Manaea Luis Severino Alex Cobb Max Scherzer Justin Verlander Jose Quintana Frankie Montas Spencer Turnbull Andrew Heaney Matthew Boyd   Possible trade targets Garret Crotchet Sandy Alcantera Jesus Luzardo Eduardo Cabrera Reid Detmers Emerson Hancock Jordan Montgomery Lance McCullers Jr.
    • Is Webb anything special.  I would rather replace Webb with Norfolk shuttle guy.
    • Our SS is Gunnar, our CF in this scenario would be Cowser, and C is Adley. Hopefully none of those guys are in contention for being the team's worst hitter next season. We don't need a power bat in LF - we need to add a good contact bat, that can use all fields and run.
    • Kemp was part of it but bringing back 2 UTIL IF is blocking your best prospect when your manager covets veteranosity. If they aren’t resigned then Holliday gets a longer leash.
    • LF is a bit of a waste of a spot for #9 hitter.  Its not a premium defensive position so you shoudl be able to get a decent bat who can also play there.  If you're worst hitter isn't an SS, C or CF, either you're contending for a WS , or something isn't quite right.  And this team isn't quite WS contenders just yet.
    • A lot could change between now and then, but right now he's the 4th starter. I like Povich more than most around here and think he can be a solid 4th starter. He may have been command days, but he doesn't get hit hard.  The cool new Baseball Savant chart shows his fastball and curve and have above average movement and is why his slightly below average velocity (.9 MPH below MLB avg for LHP) plays up a bit.
