9/20/23: Mountcastle to the IL and McKenna has been called up

I am sure that Mountcastle really hoped and thought he would be ok in a couple of days, but you also wonder how much of that was just his wishful thinking and wanting to be a part of stretch run.  His not being put on the IL right away likely hurt the team.  There were definitely instances where the team could have use McKenna at the end of games in the outfield.

Yes.  You can only ever use one option a year.  I think the new rule is you can only option a particular player 5 times a year though.  But even if you option someone on the 40 man to start the season, that counts as their one option for the entire year.

McKenna has been optioned 4 times this season.  He can be optioned one  more time this season.

He has been optioned in 3 seasons so he will be out of options next year.

Likely hurt the team?? The team is 4-2 since his injury, losing the first two games to TB. They certainly weren't going to rush him to the IL. Definitely instances where the team could have used McKenna?? Really??

So Roch says the move of Mountcastle can be backdated 3 days, meaning Mountcastle can return on the 27th.

Why can't it be backdated the full 6 days that Mountcastle has sat out with the injury?

Yes it doesn't appear to have hurt the team but it's still a questionable process.

I assume the O's are at the maximum pitchers allowed.  Doesn't there have to be a minimum of 13 or is it 14 w/ the extra roster spot, position players?
