This could be the most interesting spring training in years

OK, I’m getting ahead of myself here.  We don’t know who will be acquired or traded this winter and what the ST roster will look like.   But as things stand today, you’ve got Kjerstad, Cowser, Ortiz, Holliday and Mayo all with a shot at an Opening Day roster spot, and probably a first look at Basallo in major league camp.  Then on the pitching side we’ll see how they use Hall, Irvin and Wells, with McDermott and Povich getting some long looks.   It’s going to be really fun to see how all these battles shake out, and who makes a big move next March regardless of whether they make the OD roster.

I’ve booked a trip to the area for March 3-15 and hope to catch at least 3-4 games while I’m down there.  Only 108 days until then!  😁

It should be fun but I’m skeptical that Mayo or Holliday will have a realistic chance.  I think service time will come into play especially with Holliday and defense (Holliday more experience at 2B) will be used as the excuse.   The biggest decisions will revolve around Kjerstad, Cowser, and Ortiz, assuming none are traded before that.  Norby too.

I agree that Mayo and Holliday face an uphill battle, but I expect them both to get a good long look and make their case.  Even if they don’t make the roster they can give us an idea how ready they are.  Glad you mentioned Norby, who’s had plenty of AAA seasoning though I think he’s got a very tough path.

It would be fun if Norby just obliterates ST and really punches his way through to getting on the map a bit more.

THIS.  Norby has become so over looked around here its wild. All he does is hit and its not like he was a butcher in LF when he had chances.

You're a good hype man Frobby. You make me want to go to Spring Training now that you've got me thinking about it. :)

I think Norby will have a great Spring and maybe even get a call up... for a different organization.
