The O’s, to be clear, have made no mention that a Tommy John procedure is a consideration at the moment — but a sprain, by definition, involves some degree of tearing in the ligament. We’ve seen plenty of pitchers diagnosed with a UCL sprain avoid surgery in recent years (Aaron Nola, Ervin Santana, Anthony DeSclafani to name a few), but the majority of UCL injuries eventually result in surgery of some kind.

Just now, baltfan said:

This is my sentiment as well.  I can't remember the last time a PRP injection was the cure for an Oriole.

It's almost certainly just delaying the inevitable, might as well just bite the bullet and go straight to TJS.

On a related note, Ryu or Lorenzen would look pretty good in orange and black right about now...

The O's knew this in January, so they've had a month and a half to panic-sign Montgomery or whoever. Doesn't seem like that's gonna happen.

Tyler Wells may have just earned himself a rotation spot, which deals another blow to the bullpen.

This one's a doozy.

Good Lord, this is about the worse news possible on opening day of camp. How in the world do you sprain your UCL over the offseason?

Wow, what a bummer. Guess Elias better get on the phone and get something done or Tyler Wells/Cole Irvin just became starter candidates.
