How much evidence does Mike Elias need that Jorge Mateo should not be playing against RHP?

This lineup puts their best infield defense out there.  That is why Mateo is playing.  Any offense he provides is a bonus.  They need to do everything to help the pitching staff right now.  They will score enough runs.

I am not trying to be negative Nancy but Cleveland seems like a team Grayson will struggle with. They do not chase much and are contact oriented.

I don't disagree but they've been extraordinarily fortunate w/ their contact. Feels a little like the 2014 Royals series..... everything's a hit.

That's what Brandon Hyde said about James McCann. I reject the premise.

We scored 4 runs combined Saturday through Monday. We haven't scored enough runs for 5 straight games.

It doesn't matter if we win 4-2 to 8-6.

Offensive value + defensive value = player value. You put the 9 highest values in the lineup and that's what will win you the most games.

They faced very good pitchers Saturday through Monday.  This isn’t a softball team you don’t throw your 9 best offensive players out there regardless of their ability to play defense.  The Orioles have  plenty of offense.  Mateo is also a way better defender than McCann.

You throw your 9 best players out there. “Best” is determined by offensive value + defensive value. There isn’t some optimal combination of offensive players and defensive players to win by 1 run every night. Mateo can’t hit RHP. He isn’t a net positive against RHP. Let’s see if Mayo is.

Until Mayo is called up, there's not much difference to me between having Urias or Mateo in the lineup.

I think it makes a difference. Both are hitting about the same but Mateo is a menace on the bases and has been player better defense this year, in my opinion. Playing Mateo at 2b leaves Westburg at 3b, where I think he is better defensively

Is this an argument for Urias over Mateo? If so Urias is negative WAR with both the bat and the glove this season, so if your premise is the "best" then Urias isn't one of them.

Anyone have issues with Mullins starting over Cowser?

I don’t love it but it is what it is. Both have similar floors that we’ve seen at times this year but Cowser at his best is a lot better than anything Mullins has showed the last 2 years over any extended period, in terms of results, quality of contact, plate discipline, etc.

So you are saying Hyde doesn’t think he is throwing out his best 9 players he think can win with?  Why do you think he plays Mateo?  This team  managed by Hyde has been winning at a 650 percentage for 1 year and a half now.

I mention Mayo in the last sentence. Hopefully Elias doesn’t need too much more evidence that Urias has been in a consistent decline since he debuted with the club.
