Still haven't gotten them back for not playing Mussina in the All Star Game.  Next time a Blue Jay gets hit, Oriole players should yell "That was for Mussina"

Will change my vanity plate to CTGVSBJ

I hinted at this before but I believe this IL stint will be in the weight room. Mountcastle has a major power outage going. I know some people will say, oh you are saying the Orioles are faking an injury? For a World Series yes. They will not be champions unless their 4 hitter is driving the ball. I always point to DL Hall last year and his IL transition back to bullpen.

Seriously?   He could have been getting work in the weight room without going on the IL.

When he comes back, Adley will go on an IL stint to ride the treadmill and Jackson will go on an IL stint to play Golden Tee.  The plan is coming together!

Bringing up Livan instead of Mayo is an absolute joke.

How many more days until another Mayo promotion keeps him under 45 service days and rookie eligible for 2025?

Actually, according to MLB has to exceed 45 days. depending on how they calculate the day he got option he was 13 or 14 days on the roster (I think 13) September is 29 days. do they still play a possible makeup game on Monday after the Reg season? If they do have to account for that. Playoffs start Tuesday at the latest.  (so 29 or 30.) thats 42 or 43. Kas to be on roster by Sept 1 to be playoff elgible. I would think sometime during the Colorado series. how they dont bring him up I dont know.

45 days, 130 ABs, or 50 IP.

Also, you don’t have to be on the roster to be eligible for the postseason by 9/1. Just in the organization. Teams get injury exemptions. Plus, Mayo had already been in the majors this year.

However, I think the writing is on the wall for Mayo to come back up. It’s the “right” move to make. Let’s keep his rookie eligibility and at least get our guys experience in a playoff chase. Hopefully, playoffs, but not guaranteed.

Mounty might be done as an O. We’ll offer him arb, but he’s likely out the door because of roster makeup. Mainly Mayo at 1B. Adley/Basallo at DH/C eventually in 2025.

You know Mounty is second in hits and leads the team in doubles. He is an important part of our lineup.

Mountcastle has been a disappointment this year. You kind of sum it up by mentioning hits as one of the categories he leads in. More hits because he doesn’t draw walks. Also, he’s been batting cleanup or #5 all season. How about leading us in RBI?

I don’t think you understand how the weight room works.

I think if anyone was expecting Mountcastle to be anything more than an average ML regular at this point that falls on them.

Everyone isn't a five win player nor does a team need them to be.

True. I had “big disappointment” originally typed, but took it out for that very reason.

I didn't expect him to be a 5 win player, but I did expect 20+ homers. That said, I agree with everything you said- we know who Mounty is.

    • I think most people that follow this club feel similarly. But that's because we have months of this team being mediocre to go off of. They aren't the team that played well the first 2 months any longer. I think folks need to accept that performance isn't in them and is long gone, for a myriad of reasons.
    • Absolutely agree. When we look back on this season, I think that's how it's going to be remembered...that while were able to navigate minimal injuries in 2022 and 2023, this was the year the tide turned for us in a big, big way...the first half of the season was fantastic and in the second half the injuries proved to be insurmountable.
    • The sad thing is -  I thought this team was very entertaining the first half of the season.  It seemed we were hitting and getting on base more.   We were stealing bases and taking extra bases on balls put in play.  The defense was much sharper.   We had more of pitching staff in tact.  Then the injuries, the collapse of our closer, the big drop in offensive production, the head-scratching trades and acquisitions,  the sloppy defense, and the Burnes issues. The only bright spots in the second half are the 5 weeks of Tony, a resurgence of Cedric, and Zach Elfin.
    • I appreciate the effort. But these numbers don't apply because we know that Akin is awful with runners on and in high leverage situations and we need to consider O'Neill's dominance against lefties, so a homer isn't the only consideration. He's decently fast (above average) *and* he can hit doubles or even triples with that goofy ass wall and dead center's orientation. Probably here is that Akin isn't going to attack O'Neill, so we know he's going to put him in a position where he's going to rip something.
    • A hit or walk plus a sac fly also wins it in the IBB scenario.   Setting aside matchups, the generic expected runs goes from 1.18 to 1.57 and probability of 2+ runs goes 27% to 40%. Those are some pretty big numbers. I am guessing Akin was told to stay away from O'Neil for one of those "intentional-unintentional" walks in the worst case scenario. So it really should have been a K, sac fly, or walk if Akin executes.  Watching the replay, I don't get what they were going for. Adley sets up outside but shifts inside with the pitch. So it looks like he called for an inside pitch which seems like a really bad idea. Were they trying to bury it in the dirt and Akin left it up? The first pitch was a FB in the dirt, also inside.  Anyway, my unscientific "blame percentage" is something like 70% on Holliday for booting the grounder, 20% on Hyde for burning Cano, 8% on Akin for the pitch execution, and then like 2% on Hyde for making the wrong call in hindsight on a 50/50 IBB.
    • I'm still watching as many games as I can, except on Sunday when I'll watch the Commies instead, probably. I feel the same way you do, though.  Totally unexcited about this team...Prepared for someone to sweep the leg in the playoffs and have it over with.
