Gunnar Henderson 2024

It's surreal watching Gunnar keep up offensively with Judge, who's having a career season of his own.  While playing SS.

It gives Gunnar the edge in the MVP race over Judge playing the more physically demanding defensive position on the field. I don’t care that much about it.

I just want to see Yankees fans whine when their home run hitting Neanderthal doesn’t win the award.

Papa John’s might be rethinking their Gunnar promotion for 50% off the menu price the day following a Gunnar bomb.

In all seriousness...

Wednesday night is pizza night at our house.  We mix up where we get it from but usually go to Papa John's after Gunnar homers because it's so cheap.  Both the Hampstead and Finksburg locations said they were no longer honoring the deal.

I don't know if the Papa John's near me is part of this program but I kinda want to find out now.  Probably not, these things are usually Maryland only.

I'm going to try it tomorrow. Usually if you order online they have to honor the discount code as opposed to calling or ordering in person. I do wonder does the franchisee have the discretion to not honor the promo if their location is in the zone for it.

Judge just got his 30th. On pace for 62 again. If he pulls that off he's winning the MVP.

He just doesn't show down.   I keep thinking that his 6'7", 270 pound frame will tire or lose a fraction in bat speed,  but he just keeps going.   It's amazing really.   He can stand far enough off the plate that he doesn't have to swing at pitches on his hands,  and yet he can still cover the outside corner with his long limbs.

I'm thinking Judge will hit at least 60 this year,  and Henderson may get 50.  It will be fun to watch this play out.   Judge may get 150 RBI, or more.

    • I think, Holliday stays at AAA until you think, without risking another demotion, he can do for the top of your line-up similar to what Kwan does for Cleveland. You are not bringing him up for his defense - you have that in Mateo. We can always use a consistent table setter, however. I hope, Holliday becomes Kwan like and maybe even better. That would be a heck of an outcome. Mayo looks primed now. And, we could use that right-handed bat. Urias appears the likely casualty. I've come to the point where I'd even DFA Urias to make that happen.
    • Elias says "Hold the Mayo" - at least for now
    • Excellent points. My only real responses are that 2023 was a career year for Scott. Every other year his walk rate was too high.    Every year is a new year, and there’s little as variable from year to year as relief pitching, so saying he was splendid last year means nothing compared to his career norms. However, you’re correct about this season. He started poorly and has gotten better. Still, once burned is twice warned, and I wouldn’t want him back.
    • That works.  I also think we need to find everyday AB for Kjerstad.   Cowser in LF, Mullins in CF, Santander in RF, is the best defensive alignment and the most likely to get the most AB.  As great as O’Hearns AB are the amount of actual damage is good, not great.   Just a thought.  We have a club option on O’Hearn with Santander headed for FA so I doubt he’s going anywhere.   On further thought we should probably just hold onto O’Hearn.  Lol
    • We don’t know how long he will be out of the field. I agree that matters a lot.  But when he’s ready, he’s going to be up.
    • Seems like Holliday isn't going to be up for at least a month or more. He hasn't seemed to have recovered his form since his demotion. Are we sure he's going to be ready to contribute this year at the major league level or is it possible he needs all of 2024 for development? If Holliday makes it clear he's ready before the end of July, I like moving Mounty at the trade deadline, putting O'hearn at first base and then using either Mayo or Westburg at DH whenever the other is at 3b.
    • Because Holliday will be up..and then what?  Guys have to be moved.
