22 - 8

It just dawned on me that Mullins/ Tate/ Mountcastle killed my chances of nailing this prediction.

If we win 17 and lose 13, that will put the nail in the coffin in any hopes in catching the Yankees, we will likely be 10 games out of 1st.

That’s crazy talk.  I suggest you take a careful look at how things went for the Orioles and Rays last year.  It’s a long season and the division winner won’t be decided in June.

There is much crazy talk here at OH!  It is not all just in the game thread.

This would put the Orioles at 52-32. Do you really think the Yankees will be 62-22 or the equivalent of 10 games ahead? The Yankees have been hot, but their record is 42-19.

If the Yankees would happen to play at that pace then you just tip your hat to them and try to win as many games as possible.

Exactly the Yankees would be on pace for one of the best regular season records in MLB history. There isn't much you can do about that, but it doesn't necessarily mean a World Series in the expanded playoff format.

The goal should be win the AL East, but at a minimum make the playoffs and see how the chips fall.

They may be.  That remains to be seen but there isn’t much the Orioles can do about it.  If Judge, Stanton, and Soto play at the pace they are now the whole season they are an offensive machine.  Their pitching has been great and Cole may be coming back soon.  That said in a playoff series anyone can beat anyone.

In hindsight yes, but you can't see the future, do you honestly think the Yankees are going to keep up a .690 winning percentage all year? I highly doubt it.

Are they better than the 2022 Yankees?  That team had a better record at this point in the season than this year’s Yankees.   The ‘22 team did win the division, but only won 99 games after starting 49-16.  They went 50-47 after their crazy hot start.  Teams don’t defy gravity forever.

The 1997 Orioles started 50-23 (111 win pace) and finished 98-64. It's rare for a team to stay this hot for all 162 games.

I wouldn't.

I think that would lead to some really annoying national coverage and a pretty toxic environment.

Maybe 26-4?

The 1921 IL Orioles had a 27-game winning streak, which was the professional record* until broken by the 1987 Salt Lake Trappers. That would be nice to beat.

* The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings won something like 81 consecutive games, but that was before leagues were established and many of the wins were against local amateur nines of questionable quality.
