The 2024 Trade Deadline

Recommended Posts

What are the possibilities that a team might ask for Jordan Westburg? as far as I’m concerned, he’s a keeper, but I wonder if a team would look at what he’s done so far and want him as an established major league group over one of the Prospects?

Why not see how much someone like Jameson Taillon would cost prospect wise? $17 million a year for a decent pitcher isn't horrendous.

Jon Morosi just reported on 670 The Score that the Cubs are signaling to teams that they are open to selling later this month.

No trade talks are imminent. Bellinger, Happ, and Taillon all mentioned as candidates to clear money while refreshing the roster.

Not interested in any of those guys. Tallion is no better than Irvin or Suarez

Sorry the Moon and the Stars. I bet the asking with be one of our top 3 plus.

Ok.  You don’t know what he’s asking for.  Even more so, you don’t know what he’d accept.     Will another team offer more than Kjerstad, Norby, and McDermott?    Can another team top that?    Doubtful.

Disclaimer:   I don’t think Elias would do this but I believe Crochet is gettable without giving up one of the top 3 prospects.

I don’t either …. Kjerstad and Norby are too much.

He a risky acquisition….I think you offer Norby or Stowers as your number 1 with a couple of others …maybe a 20-30 guy and a DSL player or two.

That’s a joke offer.

Which is why it’s not getting done. You are willing to overlook the warts. I doubt Elias would ….. look at the Cease deal. They got Thorpe #4 (#64 of the top 100), a RP that has a 3 era so far this year, and 2 DSL kids ..one of which was their #7.

So this year that’s Kjerstad/Mayo, Norby , Armbruester, and a DSL Kid.

Honestly, you feel Crochet is worth more than Cease? Because that’s what you’d be doing. Based on injury risk abd stuff …I don’t. I’d say Norby, Arias, Nolan Hoffman, and a 20 year old DSL player is more than fair

I almost think Crochet should get his own thread as he’s monopolized this trade deadline thread.

my .02 cents. I doubt Elias will pay the price it will take to get him. He’s proven repeatedly he’s pretty conservative when it comes to trades and will not pay the overpay Getz has shown he wants for his players.

I watched end of Astros and Blue Jays game.  Trevor Richard’s could be a nice second piece as a trade option for the bullpen.  He is having solid year .139/.222/.264/.486 line is very nice.  He is signed just for the year at 2.5 million so guy you could get for late teen type prospect.  Judd Fabian for Richard’s would seem like decent trade.

I posted the AL earlier but forgot to add the NL.  If the Cubs have indeed made it known that they are sellers, I've added them to the blue highlighted 'likely sellers list'.  The more sellers, the merrier.

  • The Blue Jays striking any significant deal with the rival O's seems less likely than other clubs, but anything is possible.
  • The Rangers have veteran starters Max Scherzer and Nathan Eovaldi that may draw the O's interest.
  • The Tigers have starters Tarik Skubal and, gulp, Jack Flaherty that may interest Elias.
  • The Angels could offer lefty veteran starter Tyler Anderson, veteran closer/reliever Carlos Estevez, and perhaps RHH COF Taylor Ward.
  • The A's have guys that would be of help, if available, in closer Mason Miller and reliever Lucas Erceg.
  • The White Sox could offer starter/reliever Garrett Crochet, starter Erick Fedde, and reliever Michael Kopech.  CF Luis Robert Jr. seems unlikely for us but should be mentioned.
  • The Cubs could offer starter Jamison Taillon.
  • The Marlins have lefty closer Tanner Scott and that's about all I see, as far as fits.
  • The Rockies have veteran starter Cal Quantrill and lefty reliever Jalen Beeks to offer.

He asked for Holliday last deadline for Cease. Who knows what he asked for this past winter for Cease?

I’d rather we just go the rental route with Kikuchi, Scherzer, or Severino. We can figure out next year’s rotation this winter.

Might as well just bring back Flaherty or Cobb (Rolls Eyes)
