The 2024 Trade Deadline

Agreed. I still think it's more likely that Westburg will be traded before they try him in the OF. (I don't think either scenario will happen, realistically.) I think Westburg to 2B and Mayo to 3B will get a trial run at some point in the very near future.

The fact that Mateo is showing signs of going into his annual long funk supports your theory.

You're probably right, but I'd maintain he wouldn't have a significantly better arm than Mullins.

You’re making progress.  You went from Westburg’s arm being “even worse” than Cedric’s to not significantly better.

He doesn't have a strong arm. Even a professional scout like you should be able to see that.

Barrios wasn't even a top 20 prospect for MIL.

Rays are smart.  20 yo SS hitting .325 with a .970 fact. At SS.    Some speed.   Doubles power.    Wouldn’t be surprised if he turned into something.

Power? His power is a 30 rating.

I never said he had a strong arm.   It’s good enough for CF if he should ever move there which is highly doubtful.    Same goes for Holliday.

Civale has a 5.01 ERA.  He’s going to get replaced by Shane Baz who’s twice as talented.  Not only is it not a white flag, it’s probably a move that makes them better right away.

You’re correct , I just read about the trade on MLBTR . It all makes sense now .

But why move Westburg to the outfield when he's a much better defensive infielder than Holliday, and when Holliday could just as easily convert to an OF? Holliday is around as fast as Westburg, so he'd have a better chance of converting to CF, as well as all 3 OF in general positions, without sacrificing infield defense.

Holliday is a mediocre defensive 2B at best, even worse at SS. I don't think a lot of casual fans realize that yet.

Holliday is also 20years old.  When I hear people criticize his defense it seems like nobody is taking that into account.  If I remember correctly Westburg was considered average to slightly below average defender when he was coming up through the minors.  He was several years older than Holliday at the time, yet everyone seems pretty content with his play in the field.

I'm not saying Holliday is going to be a future gold glove winner, but he is far from being a finished product.

It means they got Civale without giving up much of anything but a lotto ticket.

Well, that’s not necessarily true.

They may have been able to get more of a  “sure thing” prospect but wanted the higher upside instead.

TB isn’t stupid. They wanted this kid for a reason.

Peospect rankings are overrated. MLB (which isn’t good) has him 21st..same spot they have Liranzo for us and no way Liranzo is our 21st best prospect..just like Fabian isn’t our 12th best prospect.

    • So fess up Adley now that you have been a huge catalyst to another epic failure for this team. What is it exactly? What did you do to address it? Did you talk about a stint on the DL to get better so you could actually help the  team out instead of fans dreading your name in the lineup.
    • Agreed with what you said above except about Santander .  Give him the QO & let  him get his bag elsewhere . I like him but it’s time for a change .  Totally 💯 agree about Burnes . He didn’t deserve to lose game # 1 , gave up one freaking run and they rewarded him with zero 0️⃣ runs  ? SMH .  Give him the QO AND make strong serious effort to keep him here .
    • And what you said about Elias and Hyde I so agree with. Elias gets one more year and then all eyes are on him if his beloved hitting prospects  fail again .  He deserves another year with real owners to back him. Hyde should be gone tomorrow.
    • Good post Tony and Lord knows I got called out many times for being negative and go root for another team when all this Oriole fan was pointing out was how bad they were playing and how overrated the offense was for some time now. I mean you could even see it with all those solo homers they were hitting because this team couldn't get guys on base. For all the pitching injuries this team had especially with the starters it wasn't really the starters that ultimately did this team in but a lousy BP and lousy hitting.
    • In a few days everyone will arguing about ways to improve the team for 2025. It sucks seeing them fail when it really mattered,  but they had to get there to fail. Hopefully they'll keep getting chances and get it right one day.
    • The Royals lost 106 games and 97 games in 2023 and 22 meanwhile those same years the Orioles have found success  but here we are the  Royals are already celebrating more playoff success then Baltimore has. It's  frustrating, pathetic and sad how bad this team has been in the playoffs. 10 straight loses is choking at its finest especially when you can make a case the Orioles were the more talented team during this stretch. Well maybe the Blue Jays were better the year they beat the Orioles. Maybe
    • No surprise there. A healthy Adley will be a productive Adley once more. At least now he gets an extra three weeks of rest before Spring Training… silver linings and all.
