Buck was the exact opposite of Hyde.   He babied his relievers, didn't warm them too much, didn't make as many pitching changes, left his starters in longer than most people liked.

And he had some absolutely lights out fantastic, deep, healthy bullpens during his time here.

Hyde overuses his relievers and babies his starters.   And we may be seeing some results of that where guys who pitched a lot last year are not quite as good this year.   (Cano, Perez).  And guys wear down or get hurt.

Now if that strategy was keeping the starters healthy the way Buck's strategy kept the bullpen healthy... maybe it would be a tradeoff worth making.   But...umm... I don't think our starters are staying healthy,
