On “paper” to me the Orioles weakest part of the remaining schedule is the rest of this month and then at start of Sept. You could argue starting with last 3 games at COL.

  • 2 weeks later...

Worth noting the upcoming Yankees schedule. Very much in their favor. All AL contenders are done playing today except HOU.

Taking 3 out of 4 vs the Jays but losing a half game hurts especially when the Yanks had the Phillies in a 3 game series.  The Phillies are now 4-11 vs the current playoff teams in the AL.

I'm at the Jersey shore and I want to roll my eyes at everyone I see in Phillies gear. Losing a 6-5 game with all six runs driven in by D.J. LeMahieu?

They are definitely struggling I think I saw 4-12 in last 16 games.

The Yankees are one Soto or Judge injury like Westburg's away from finishing second in the AL East.  I those two stay healthy, they win the East I think.  Just too many broke dick dog teams left for them to play.  But either of those guys goes down for an extended time and they are screwed.

A nice balance to the calendar for BAL-NYY.

49 games, 8 weeks, 56 days.

Thanks @eddie83for the layout, makes it easy to scan that 3rd week from now our final 7-game week.    At least an off day a week all September as you game out how much to throw your top pitchers as the finish line draws near.

Minnesota: 18-2 against OAK and CWS, 44-46 against everyone else

KC: 16-3 against OAK and CWS, 47-47 against everyone else

As we’ve seen for the O’s, it’s not always easy winning against bad teams, but I thought it was interesting seeing these numbers. They’re also a combined 52-65 against teams over .500. They’ve pretty much taken advantage of a historically bad CWS team in their division to be in WC spots.

As another poster pointed out, we're 8-1 out of the break in games that Burnes, Grayson, and Eflin, start.  1-7 with the others.  Now that the others consist of Kremer and Rogers versus Kremer, Suarez, Povich, and McDermott, I expect us to have more consistent/better results going forward.

The bullpen is coming together too.

It would be really good to secure home field advantage, and avoid the first rd.

    • Super valid points though I think the hitting has been the issue more than the pitching which has amounted for the majority of the injuries.
    • There has to be something hurt. His physical metrics are down from last year when there isn’t any reason they should drop. He’s was very good the first half of the year and then immediately fell off a cliff for July, August and now September. I’d be shocked if we don’t find out that he’s been playing a lot more hurt than they are telling us.
    • Maybe he plans on taking credit for either happening..?
    • I think the start of a young player is huge for guys coming up in the majors especially the younger talented ones.  This is the first time some of them have struggled and had real pressure on them being brought up in a pennant race.  Both Mayo and Holliday are Hugh school picks and never been in a huge stage compared to say Dylan Crews another young player breaking in.  Crews played for LSU in the Sec where there was huge crowds and pressure in weekend series there then they made a run through the playoffs and to the College World Series facing some of the best pitching prospects in the game.  In Crews’s case he even faced Skeenes in an inter squad game.  So he was facing top talent and in a much bigger stage than even minor league baseball.  Holliday and Mayo were playing against an 16-18 year old computer nerd in high school who through 80 mph.  Yes they played some games in travel ball and showcases against better high school kids but still not same then playing in college baseball playoff tournaments and World Series type games.  Henderson seemed to have similar struggles.  The two guys that seemed to adjust better Rutschman and Westburg played college ball and major conferences along with Super regionals atmosphere.
    • Is it possible to lose a three game series in just one game? I wonder if the O’s will find a way…
    • Agreed, but 5-4 is better than 4-5.
    • Really terrible 9 game stretch.
