Well, I think that’s right.  But I think this is really an acknowledged shot in the dark.  Jimenez has a .066 ISO vs. LHP on the year, and actually has a better OPS vs. RHP than LHP in his career.   He’s not some lefty-mashing specialist.

Yup.  It's the definition of buy low.  He's having the worst year of his career.  He's still owed about $4 million.  I don't think Elias gets to make that kind of dart throw under the Angelos family.

One of the bigger takeaways from the deadline is how we added salary with Eflin, Soto, Slater, and Eloy.  10 millionish just for this year.  Hays/Dominguez was a wash.

The White Sox sent cash along with Jimenez.  How much, we don’t know.

Mayo can't handle 3rd base in a playoff race.  His bat might be ready but can we take a chance.   He is currently getting work at 1B, a much easier position.  Next year he will be the starting 1st baseman when we mov e on from Mountcastle and he could be the favorite for rookie of the year.  His defense is wants holding him back and do you really want him called up and jerked around and playing every third day.  Let him learn 1st base, win ROY and get an extra 1st round pick.  Let him come up in September and get some pinch hit at bats against lefties  when o Hearn is facing a lefty.

Eloy Jimenez is only 1 year and a few days older than Stowers.  Supposedly... How can he not play RF?

Because he outweighs Stowers by like 50 pounds.  He’s not exactly svelte, shall we say.   If you’re looking for reasons not to sign young players to multi-year deals, he’s exhibit A.

You mean like they have done with all the other prospects? They have jerked every one of them around.

My hope is that the Os know something they can tweak in his approach, swing, stance etc. that will make him more palatable.   I've see stuff like this happen all the time in baseball...Steve Pearce, Chris Davis, Ryan O'Hearn etc.  Could also just go up in flames.

I guess my general reaction is that I wont be surprised if he is great or sucks.  Either way

As pointed out earlier, it probably sucked playing for the White Sox.  Change of scenery from that dumpster fire should do some good.

To your point, I feel like the Ravens have been able to take players from bad teams and make them much better.  It sucks playing for a bad team.  I'm hoping the Os can establish some serious multi year consistency here and do the same, though baseball is more individualized than football.  Hoping for hte best.

Plenty of small things you can tinker with to unlock this guy. He has a pretty closed stance, can put him in more athletic position in box ala Ohean, can change his hand/bat position pre pitch.
