My source has told me that Wieters is a done deal, and that he has signed to a big league deal. Take it for what its worth. The O's and Wieters are keeping it hush hush he said.

I guess it could mean he is going to get a (relatively) larger contract than Weiters. Not a major league contract... or not as much money.... but for his 5th round slot, a BLOCKBUSTER contract...

Or it could be that Boras has been so busy with all his picks that are yet to be finalized that the lower round picks are not the highest priority.

While this is ecstatic news, let's temper our enthusiasm in regard to promotion timetable. For him to be the #1 catcher Baltimore next season would be beyond miraculous - even Scott Boras would feel that is beyond reason.

Sure there are a few RARE instances of college guys shooting up the ladder, but Weiters is a CATCHER. Let's not be disappointed in him when he's hitting .280 with 12 home runs in Bowie next year.
