We need at least one spot with an optionable guy to rotate taxi squad guys in and out. Elias also typically likes to have a spot for waiver claims. Akin, Cano, and Bautista are technically optionable but we aren't going to want to lose them for 15 games at a time. So that is one, possibly two, guys from your list that we need to get rid of.
IMO, Perez is the first to go. I am 50/50 on Soto. I like him, but Elias could deploy the $8-9m elsewhere.
McDermott and Young should see opportunities. Wells could be a factor at some point.
I know a lot of people want to add a high leverage arm. I tend to doubt that happens.
Maybe Elias will make a buy-trade for a young reliever with options rather than an established high leverage guy.
So one player was productive in 2024 which is 2hy he was acquired. The other did nothing but lose games for us and get sent to the minors if you can see the difference, I can’t help,
Next year's team needs a more dominant bullpen build because the rotation probably won't be as good as it was this year.
Bautista goes a long way, and Soto/Dominguez help, but they do need one more guy I think. I can see a pen of only returning guys being very good, if Bautista is himself, but you need an insurance policy for that.
I've never really noticed that (but I wasn't paying attention to it either), I just think Soto has better stuff and is much more likely to be a dominant bullpen arm for us next year than Perez.
Here's your list of FA 1Bs: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/09/previewing-the-2024-25-free-agent-class-first-base.html
I like Carlos Santana, despite his age, as he is solid on both sides of the ball. Would Bellinger be a crazy idea?
