Right now my expectation is that Mountcastle won't be back any time soon, maybe not till next season.

Wow smh 🤦🏻‍♂️, this Orioles season feels like a Bataan Death March  .  With all these injuries they having , and they still have best AL record ?  This is a strange baseball season

The Roku broadcast mentioned that GRod wish have multiple 3-4 inning rehab starts and then get one start at the Ml level at the end of the year.

I would assume this is info they were told by the team and didn’t make it up but if so, I think it’s possible GRod goes to the pen for the playoffs if he’s not right yet. Remember, he has had mechanical issues coming back from injuries, so shorter stints could be in the cards for him especially if they need high leverage reliever help.

We have to see how he looks coming back from the injury but don’t be surprised if that happens, despite the lack of starting rotation depth.

O's potentially have seven players returning from injury before the end of the season.  Of the seven, Mountcastle appears to be the biggest question of whether he will return before the season ends.  Here is the most up to date information I can find:

Pitchers:

Grayson Rodriguez (15 day IL) - Rodriguez (lat) could face hitters at some point this week during the Orioles' road trip, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Danny Coulombe (60 day IL) - Coulombe (elbow) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday according to pitching coach Drew French, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Jacob Webb (15 day IL) - Jacob Webb resumes his rehab assignment Tuesday night with Triple-A Norfolk, which plays in Durham, reported by Roch Kubatko.

Batters:

Ryan Mountcastle (10 day IL) - Manager Brandon Hyde relayed Monday that he wasn't sure when Mountcastle (wrist) would return from the 10-day injured list, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.  Hyde stated “I don’t know, I don’t know,” he said this afternoon. “I want to say it’s optimistic, but I’m not really sure. I think he’s gonna come back by the end of the regular season, I just don’t know when.”

Jordan Westburg (10 day IL) - Westburg (hand) was spotted fielding grounders while the Orioles were warming up prior to Monday's game against the Red Sox, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.  Westburg was not wearing anything on his right hand for protection.  No timeline set for his return, but expected to return before the regular season is over.

Heston Kjerstadt (10 day IL) - Kjerstad (concussion) began a rehab assignment with High-A Aberdeen on Saturday and has gone 2-for-5 with a walk and a run over his first two contests with the affiliate.

Ramon Urias (10 day IL) - Urias (ankle) is progressing and said Friday that he's confident he'll play again before the end of the season, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.  Urias is off crutches.

Wonder if we see Mounty take another at bat in an Os uni?

Agreed. It was huge miscalculation of Elias to not trade Hays, Mountcastle etc in the off season when they actually had some value.

not even sure what value Mountcastle has at this point? A very flawed 1B hit tool, with slightly above average defense.

You always have to expect a certain number of injuries, but this is absurd. The O's are missing 3/4 of their best infield. Westburg, Mountcastle, Urias, Mateo > any combination of Holliday, O'Hearn, and whoever they throw in at 3rd. Both offensively and defensively. Pitching, you lose 60% (80%??) of your starting 5. Outfield and BP is also continually in flux. With the current group it's pretty remarkable that they play near .500 ball IMO. You have to hope that the infield situation has some improvement by the end of the month, but you can't count on it. Pitching?? Is GRod alone the savior.

It has been painful to watch. AR taking every 1st pitch (he's no Boggs), Roy Firestone's first two AB's swings at the first pitch when the pitcher is struggling. O'Hearn a good 2 strike pitcher likewise swings at the first pitch with bases loaded on the same pitcher that is all over the place.

I only hope the season ends with some dignity, a little hot streak, a good showing in the first round of the playoffs, and the Yankees not being the WS champions.

Teams are starved for offense. Mounty will have a market as long as the wrist is ok.

Mountcastle has plenty of value. Still decently young, great defender, and he does have pop. I do think Waltimore has gotten into his head, so not sure if it’s altered his swing and approach and that’s carried over to other stadiums, but there’s no secret here. Just look the before/after Waltimore power numbers for him.
