I said it last year and I'll say it again. Be careful what you wish for in praying for KC. Everyone wanted TEX last year. Who cares who they play, just win. They can beat any team, everyone here is terrified of DET.

I’ll take Det over KC

Well you can't blame us. Let's face it KC seems to have Bmore number. Between the  Royals beating the favorite Orioles in 2014 and the Chiefs keep beating the Ravens myself I have a complex with KC. Lol.

People are hoping we don't play the big scary Tigers because they beat our B team 2-4 in the past 10 days. They want KC. Hence, be careful what you wish for.

Well the Orioles did drop 4 out 6 without facing Skubal but otherwise I see your point. For me I'm torn. In some ways I still think KC may be the better team. The tigers don't have anyone in their lineup  remotely close to Witt and Perez and even though Detroit has the best pitcher in the game but to me KC looks like they have the better rotation.

It looks to me like KC is happy to rest and get ready for the Astros with the way they used Witt.

The White Sox actually have something to play for...with a win they avoid the worst winning percentage of the 162-game era, although 41-121 is not a lot better than 40-120.  To bad it looks like Detroit can back in at this point with the Braves much more motivated than the Royals.

With either team as the opponent, the key is going to be us.

At full strength, our lineup is just flat out better than either KC’s or DET’s. Not by a little. By a lot. Witt is unreal, and Perez, Greene, and Carpenter are all really good. But behind those guys, it’s a bunch of mostly light hitters that have had their hot streaks (with DET’s being mostly ongoing) that don’t really compare to the depth in our lineup.

If our pitching mostly holds up, we’ll win as long as our hitters do what they can do. Both of those are giant question marks, obviously, and the season will hang on the answer our guys provide. But you really can’t ask for much more than an opportunity to go into a series saying we think we’re better on paper than them and we just need to perform — that certainly didn’t feel like the case last year, with the way the Rangers hit up and down the lineup all season.

Detroit is one of those teams that got hot at the right time. I think they have won 6 in a row and were 9-1 in their last 10. I checked yesterday I think, but getting hot at the right time is huge for the Tigers. I think Texas last season got hot at the right time and they were like a freaking buzz saw.

I picked Baltimore to be a wild card before the season started, but had them going farther in the playoffs. I hope these guys can get it done. 🕊️

Against RHP, Carpenter and Greene are in the same tier as Soto, Witt, and Gunnar (at least the past few months).  The issue is they fall off a cliff against LHP.

I think the hottest ever saw an O's team enter the playoffs was 1974. 28 of 34, 16 of their last 18, including 9 in row to close it out. Won game one of the playoffs, lost the next 3 including 30 straight innings scoreless. what happened yesterday does not gaurentee today

I think it’s like when our fans are terrified because a team brings up a spot starter from AAA and we fear they are going to turn into Cy Young.

    • Baltimore and DC surrounding population around 9 million. NYC around 24 million.
    • This is accurate based on pockets.  But the Yankees have positive Cash Flow even with the huge payroll, because they are the richest franchise in the MLB.  The fact that the owner can fund higher salaries is certainly important, but it isn't the same thing as team revenue.
    • These two paragraphs are not congruent.  I disagree that the Orioles have to resign Burnes.  I think they should be in on him, but they don't have to sign him. I completely agree that if they do not sign him the have to have another TOR.  I think counting on Bradish to return is a poor decision.  You hope so, but planning on it would be weak.  Same with assuming #2 status for Rodriquez.  His case is stronger of course, but still.  We have some depth IF we have a TOR and that should be Burnes or someone comparable.
    • There are several. Snell, Pivetta, Bieber (depending on structure of the contract), Nick Martinez (swing type guy) and Heaney.  May be others. This is off the top of my head.
    • I think this is correct but I would say it differently.  I think Elias has done a great job constructing the organization and making it one of the top teams, complete teams, in baseball.  That was a huge hurdle from where he started and that has been a major success. Getting from a top MLB team to a successful playoff team may seem like a small jump but it is pretty large.  And Elias has been tentative at best at trying to make those changes.  He has taken an incremental path in hopes of maximizing his long term potential.  So far that really hasn't had much success.   But like Elias, we really should not assume that the changes needed to make that seemingly small jump from AL East contender to WS contender will not require some pretty big things.  I don't know if that is really different than what you are saying.
    • It was never in hindsight. The Os were always against it. We had the numbers. We knew how bad it was going to effect the team.   That is why the MaSN deal was structured the way it was. It benefited the Os for a reason. That was essentially the compromise to having the team move to DC.
    • The Mets just had more exciting wins in one week than we had in four months.  I called us the Dull Orange Machine a few weeks ago for a reason.  Really boring team most of the season, with no personality at all.  They seemed to have a "get knocked down, stay down" mentality, which isn't fun to support as a fan.  There are a lot of very good reasons noted here as to why attendance wasn't great, but the energy around this team and the organization is just low and that can't help.  And a slow and boring offseason that doesn't move the needle much won't help attendance heading into next season either.
