Wilson didn't look great in his last start against the Padres allowing 10 hits in six innings, but was fortunate to allow only three runs. If he can keep the runs off the board again here, it will put more distance between his rough streak not too long ago. Against this Rays team who just doesn't have any confidence in themselves, that just may happen.

Last 5 starts (28.2 IP): (0-2) 7.24 (1.47), 7HR

Smyly has struggled after having a strong first six starts of the season having allowed four or more runs in five of eight starts since then. He is giving up a lot of home runs to righties and generally not doing well pitching from the stretch. He has, however, dominated the Orioles completely especially at Camden Yards. He has not lost a game against the Orioles.

Despite Tillman's continued struggles which are a bit concerning by the way as he has now given up four or more runs in four of his last six starts, the Orioles manage to sweep the doubleheader against a Rays team that has very little confidence and is trying not to lose more than they are trying to win. It really is amazing how lucky the Orioles have been this season as far as running into teams in the midst of very bad losing streaks and offensive slumps, but they are going to need all those wins in the second half which doesn't line up to be nearly as easy as they will be facing a lot of good teams. The Orioles will go for the four game sweep tomorrow as the Rays have now lost 10 in a row and will go for 11 tomorrow.

Well, Drew Smyly has dominated this Orioles team in his career no matter where the game is played, but especially at Camden Yards. Wilson was very shaky against the Padres and will look to put up another good start here against a struggling and lost team.

Boston is down big to Texas in the late innings and will fall to three back of the Orioles while the Jays hang at four back with their win today and the Yankees are still hanging around at 6.5 back having won three in a row. In the Central, the Indians are running away having won eight in a row while every other team has lost at least their last game and KC five back in second place as they are getting pounded by the surging Astros who are closing in on the wild card spot now tied with KC at 1.5 back of Boston. Seattle finally won a game and are currently up on StL by one run in the late innings.

Patrick, Worley was to have pitched in relief of Garcia. Did he? How did he do?

Good afternoon, all,

The Orioles had a great week, save for the two blown three run leads. Let's get the sweep today! Tyler started off with an uncharacteristic walk, but one double-play grounder would eliminate it.

That's not what I had in mind, Tyler.

    • I saw a couple highlights and it did look a little less pronounced.  Maybeeee?  Possibly not keeping his leg in the air quite as long as he was, but it wasn't a super big change.  If any.   The one thing I see with his leg kick is whenever he swings and misses, because he keeps that leg so long in the air that once he commits to a swing, he loses his balance a lot.  He does the leg kick, letting his foot dangle in the air, and then tries to pull the trigger while its still in mid air.  That is hard to do and hard to time.  Many times his foot still seems in the air when the ball is already by him.  And every single time the right leg kick foot ends up going straight towards first base instead of towards the pitcher.  This causes his entire body to pull off the ball and towards first base and he just has no chance doing that.   All swings and misses.  Watch Gunnar for comparison.   Much more on balance and his stride foot when swinging is more or less at the pitcher, which keeps his entire body and swing plane where it should be.
    • Oh man I remember we drafted Walters in 2022 and were not able to sign him. Imagine if we had him in the organization!
    • Anyone watching his AB's right now? Is he using the time at Norfolk to work on the leg kick and change it up at all?
    • I think that is a very reasonable take.  Pitchers, especially middle relief pitching but all pitching as well, is just so much better than it used to be.    I do think the leg kick is a big issue.   In the minors he can get away with it and still keep his timing intact.  In the majors?   Where velocity, spin, and movement is all magnified?   It is much harder to keep the balance throughout the swing that one needs to be successful.   All imo of course.
    • They have both earned the call up.
    • Walters is at AA Akron, and the Orioles did draft him, so they would probably have interest. He has been electric so far striking out more than 2 per inning. I also like Aleman quite a bit at AAA. He had a 0.00 ERA in 24 innings with Akron last year with 14.3 K/9. This year at Columbus he has a 2.07 ERA and 15.9 K/9 in 13 innings. I like Gaddis more than most probably. He has struggled a bit lately, but they rode him really hard at the beginning of the year. There might be something to the idea of dealing with Cleveland because Cleveland still needs serious help in the outfield. Outside of Kwan (who is out for 4 weeks), they’ve been running out the following: Ramon Laureano: 68 wRC+ (mostly platooned) Tyler Freeman: 90 wRC+ Will Brennan: 97 wRC+ Estevan Florial: 106 wRC+ (mostly platooned)
