The Indians' quote stood out to me.

Since July 18, they're 8-30. That's a 162-game pace of 34-128

That's the Orioles... in just about every year preceding Buck. We're so fortunate things have turned around. I feel for Indians fans.

Yeah, I posted last week that several other power rankings (including CBS) all had us considerably higher than the WAR-driven S.I. Rankings had us at:

FOX SPORTS has us at #11:

CBS SPORTS had us at #10 six days ago (they have a new set of rankings coming out tomorrow):

USA TODAY has us at #12:

USA TODAY still has us at # 11, and FOX SPORTS has us at number 12, still both considerably higher than S.I. ...... although not as high as CBS, which (as you pointed out) has us at # 3. .

UPDATE:

Looks like SI finally decided enough was enough and scrapped the machines.

September call-ups aren't just relegated to players. After a five-month summer hiatus, I [Joe Lemire] have resumed control over SI.com's MLB Power Rankings for the final month of a wacky season in which Baltimore, Oakland, Pittsburgh and Washington all range from "surprise playoff contender" to "real World Series threat."

Though Power Rankings are now under new management -- in which clubs are ordered on the more traditional criteria of season-long performance with emphasis on recent play -- there's agreement at the top with the WAR-inspired rankings from the folks at FanGraphs.com: the Rangers are baseball's best.

It's about time. The Rankings as a whole look a lot better now.

Funny Oakland jumped from 17 to 4, Baltimore 20 to 7.

Boston dropped from 7 to 25.
