Yeah, come to think of it, does anyone know the last time one or the other hasn't been in the post season?

2011: The last time that the Red Sox missed it

2008: The last time that the Yankees missed it.

1993: The last time that both teams missed it.

Here, I wrote a whole article:

Yankees don't quit in tough loss

Derek Jeter had a night to remember Friday as the Yankees endured a disheartening loss, losing 8 to 7, leaving them 1/2 game out of first place. The bombers were down 8 to 2 in the 7th inning, when Jeter hit a grand-slam for his 15th home run of the season, bringing the Yankees within 2. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Jeter delivered again with an RBI triple, scoring Ichiro Suzuki from second. It was Jeter's 6th RBI of the game.

With two outs, Nick Swisher came the plate and muscled a shot to deep center field, sending the outfielder crashing into the wall, his glove reaching up over the top. Thinking he had won the game, Swish jubilantly wagged his tongue and pointed to his Yankees teammates. It was pure joy at its finest, until the centerfielder held up his glove, showing the caught ball.

"The guys were gritty out there, they didn't give up", said a disappointed Joe Girardi after the game. "We need that attitude as we head into the postseason. Each and every game is important, no matter who we are playing."

News and Notes:

Derek Jeter drove in 6 RBI's, bringing his total to 60 for the year.

Nick Swisher is one home run from bringing his career total to 205.

Until Friday, the Yankees had held the top spot in the American League East since June 11. They look to regain first place from Baltimore on Saturday.

For coverage of the World Series, please fly to the local markets and watch the games there.

We won't be covering it because the Yankees and Red Sox didn't make it.

For coverage and analytical discussion of Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez practicing, tune into ESPN between 6:00 AM ET and 6:00 PM ET any day from Monday through Saturday during the fall and winter.
