Rockies view goofy, fun-loving Giambi as a serious managerial candidate

Jason Giambi is a real candidate for the Rockies managing job. This is no joke. (Though an executive on a rival team who knows him well burst out laughing when the possibility was brought up to him a couple weeks ago.)

I didn't realize they were run from the front office like that either.

It's unfortunate because they have a good amount of young talent. Many saw Jim Tracy as the worst manager in the majors before he resigned. And I believe the front office basically said at the beginning of the season that he could be the manager for as long as he wanted. That place appears to be a total mess.

One Rockies player recently told the Denver Post, "We are essentially being run by the front office now. I'm really wondering what kind of manager -- I'm talking about a good manager -- would come in here and accept this."

I hope he does get the job. I always like hearing about younger former players (e.g. Ventura, Matheny) getting managerial positions. It just makes for an interesting storyline.
