What's he supposed to do, take a minor league deal to compete for a job in Baltimore? Or tell the Yankees, "Sorry, I have to turn down your offer to start on your playoff-contending team because the Orioles, who don't want me anymore and went to the playoffs one time during my 12 year tenure with the team, are your rivals. I gotta take my talents elsewhere to be a veteran presence on a losing team."

You boo Koji when he comes to town as well?

Absolutely agree. I don't have any problem w/Roberts signing with another team. So what if it's the Yankees? Baseball is a business pure and simple. Anyone that thinks loyalty to the fans, the player or the team comes first is only fooling themsleves. Teams make business decisions every day...players have to as well.

So a published report of the Yankees and Roberts' camp having discussions isn't "on the verge"? Don't these folks remember Mussina? The Yanks don't dilly dally when it comes to making moves.

A Roberts/Jeter middle infield would surely have the least range in baseball next year. Hope the Yankees plan to stock up on flyball pitchers.

I'm fine with Roberts moving on. I thank him for the years he was one of the few bright spots on miserable Orioles teams - but his days as a meaningful contributor are pastand I am glad the Orioles didn't resign him. Given that I project him to be more of a net negative than a positive for the Yankees - I'm fine with that being where he went.

Appreciate what he did in the past - but time to focus on the future.

Is this 100% speculation by Kenny or does he have someone telling him that? If he were really close to the organization he would have been expecting this.

How is this "catching the Orioles by surprise"? It was reported over a week ago that the Yankees were looking at him.

This whole situation is beyond hypocritical. Very few people here wanted Brian to stay on this team and now that it's the Yankees that want him, it's like sacrilege.

I hope he signs w/ them. I hardly consider this a big loss. It's hard to say goodbye to a franchise player but Brian is at that point in his career that the organization can and will find a replacement. He's had some great years here but let him walk.
