This is probably old and anytime I hear they're interested it carries little weight, but I thought it worth noting. Burnett is a MD resident and could be an asset. I'm not crazy about him but I think he's an upgrade over Feldman.

I'd like to have him.

After Tillman, Gonzalez, and Chen, I think that the slots for our final 2 starters are wide open. Penciling him at # 4 sounds good ...... if we can get him.

A.J made 16.5m last year. If you wanna talk him out of retirement it's gonna take at least 16m for 1 year. So what does that tell you? HE WONT BE A ORIOLE.

I think we could get him for less. If the Pirates made him a QO he would have signed. $16.5 was his salary not what they paid him.

Yeah, Burnett signed a 5-year contract for $82.5 Million back in 2009, and his $16.5 Million salary from last season was a part of said contract.

He had a pretty good season pitching in the National League last year, but I don't think that he will be commanding $16 Million from anyone in 2014 (unless perhaps the Yankees got desperate during the season and gave him a pro-rated $16 Million, or something of that nature.)

Do you really think A.J will get outta of bed for anything less then 15m?

Burnett has said he'll only pitch for Pittsburgh or Baltimore, or retire. Pittsburgh signed Edison Volquez today, and they just extended Charlie Morton; unlikely they have money/room for Burnett.

Doubt Angelos will allow an offer more than 1/10. So we're going to tell a guy coming off a career year to take a 40% pay cut. I mean, it's still 10 million but ... yeah.

No idea, but if that's what it takes we're looking at long odds. I'd say because of proximity we have a better shot than most and $12mil is better than what's out in the real world. Not that many years left to earn the big dollars for these guys.

You started the thread at 9:18 P.M.

That's more than 2 hours after the fact.

I wish that you'd stop with your Rip Van Winkle acts, So Cal.

    • I like Mounty, and do think there’s a decent chance this will be his best season so far.  But I don’t take a lot of comfort from sewing together two partial seasons at points that began and ended with hot streaks, and ignoring his history of streakiness.  He will have to prove that he can minimize the length and severity of his cold streaks, and for me he can only prove it over the full 162 game season.  He’s already had a stretch of 29 games at .657 this year but has been hot enough before and after to make up for it.  Hopefully he’ll continue that trend, but we’ll see.
    • I love Burnes but wouldn't want to pay what it takes. We still have Ortiz/Hall level prospects we can trade for the next Burnes. Remember we get a comp pick when he walks.
    • He's not going to be realistically in range for us.  It's going to take an overpay to keep him here, and we should have other options heading into the off season.  Hard pass for me.
    • Roch just posted the starters for the Jays series: Rodriguez, Burnes, TBA, & TBA. 3rd game Wednesday would be normal rest for Povich, so I think there's a chance they'll be calling him up to start that game.
    • I think you are on to something here, over the last calendar year Mounty has put up a slash line of .302/.363/.485 in 438 PAs...that's a long of stretch of strong offensive performance.  I'm glad he's on our team and hope he can keep it going.
    • Looks like he’s getting ready to go on one of his insane heaters. Couldn’t come at a better time, but enjoy it while it lasts.
    • I’m open to the idea IF the Orioles & Jorge Lopez reached an agreement, then let him take Vieira’s spot  1) Lopez’s son hospitalization caused him lots of stress  2) change of scenery from Mets losing culture to Orioles winning one could help him  3) Lopez had two stints with Orioles in which he pitched well and had no issues with coaches, teammates & fans  what do you guys think ?
