All right, I'll represent the dissenting opinion. I'd rather see Jonathan at AAA until he demonstrates that he has dominated at that level. I don't trust spring training stats. I have no idea how many quality breaking pitches he's seen. Also, I'd like to see him getting regular reps at Norfolk at 3B. I want him to be able to play there if Flaherty proves to be a bona fide 2B. Schoop's already prepared at 2B in case Almanzar can be kept and proves to be a bona fide 3B.

Schoop at 2nd and Flaherty at 3b solves that problem. Lombardozzi is nothing more than a utility guy. Scrappy kid but the excitement over that trade is silly.

Yep. I've been fairly strident about this the past few days, so I'll spare everyone now. Not a fan of the decision.

Like some others here, I'd prefer Schoop to start in AAA. He needs to get acclimated to seeing a better level of pitching. If he's down there for a month and raking...bring him up.

I mean he has been highly successfuly against high level pitching. wbc , his few games for the Os last year. And ST this year. In excelled in all 3 instances

Jonathan Schoop really showed me something at the plate, going 15-for-39 with five doubles, two homers and eight RBIs. He filled out his lanky frame and the ball just exploded off his bat.

Executive vice president Dan Duquette apparently dropped some strong hints on WBAL Radio last night that Schoop made the team, which most likely pushes Jemile Weeks to Norfolk.

Didn't see this posted. Looks like he might make the 25 man.....:2yay-thumb:

I don't see how having him up while Machado is on the DL for a couple of weeks hurts the team or his development.

I view it as a reward for all the hard work he put in during the offseason and spring training.

Were you a fan of Machado being promoted? And don't say it was different, that's a given.

Machado was a complete surprise to everybody, he came up for a brief visit, to get his feet wet, and his play was so strong, it forced them to rethink his career path and the rest is history. :)

That bears so little semblance to reality, it's as if you weren't following the team.

I like Schhop's bat and glove over Weeks' and Lombo's. As long as we don't start his service clock I'm fine with him being up. If he struggles he'll know what he needs to work on in Norfolk. If he does well, that's a good problem to have when Manny returns. I wish I knew how long he needed to be in the MiL to get the extra year.

Exactly right. He would have had to been awful to have been sent back.

      There is just no way Hyde is going to PH a lefty for a lefty when you have your #9 hitter RHB coming up. If Cedric sucks so bad that you PH another lefty then he really has no business being in the lineup at all. We may be approaching that point soon but we're not there yet.

      I get where you are coming from but disagree.    You had 2 viable bench bats in Mountcastle and to a lesser extent Stowers. Mountcastle was there to hit if he could tie it.    You can’t compare Mateo and Mullins offensively the last couple of years.

      It’ll be curious to see what happens.  I see a guy that can’t throw strikes and when he does he gets hammered with meh stuff.  A 4.5 era 1.44 whip guy with significantly less Ks than IP is a dime a dozen in MLB.

      I get that and normally I'm in favor of playing the matchup game.   But Ced's terrible go of it lately negates that lefty .825 OPS against Munoz for me in that situation.  I'd have been alright with Mountcastle trying to catch a hold of one there instead...at least I think Mounty would have at a better chance to draw a walk and get on for Gunnar.  IMO, getting a runner on for Gunnar was the most important part of that inning, especially if you're going to prop up the .825 OPS Munoz has against lefties.  If getting a runner on was the most important thing, then I don't want the weakest hitter on the team up there no matter what side of the plate he's standing on, I want the guy who can likely give the best at bat.  For me, that was Mountcastle. Now I get the whole veteran thing, there was no way that Hyde was going to pinch hit for Mullins since he's been a valued member of the team.  But you could argue that Mateo has been a valued member of the team for the past couple years and that pinch hitting Stowers for him was a slap in the face to Mateo, especially when Mateo hasn't been the automatic out that Mullins has been lately.

      I think we’ve all noticed that more calls have gone against the O’s than for them in the last few years.  It was only the Alomar part of your thesis that made me shake my head.
