Yes, in this one very specific situation, it makes sense to carry three second basemen. If only Buck had foreseen Hardy's back spasms, and the fact that they would not be debilitating enough to place him on the DL.

What a sad commentary. Flaherty is a success when he doesn't hit into a double play. Manny's absence and Hardy's back put us in a really tough place today. No ability to PH for Flaherty or Schoop.
