We definitely stumbled a bit after the hot start, and the offense has cooled considerably. The starting pitching stabilized a little and now we head home for the next 10-game stretch.

12-8 over every 20 game span is on pace to win the division! I'll take it. Consistency is overrated ;)

That word is "Orioles" I think I might start using Orioles as an adjective.  Like if I had a bad day, someone asks "Hey, how's it going?"  I'll just be like "Orioles, man."

We definitely stumbled a bit after the hot start, and the offense has cooled considerably. The starting pitching stabilized a little and now we head home for the next 10-game stretch.

We were not as good as the 8-2 start would indicate and we are not as bad as the 4-6 record would indicate. The team will be in-between those highs and lows IMO.

Yes ...... provided that you are not in the same division as a team like the 2001 Mariners, which I don't think that we are.

That year, the Athletics won 102 games and still finished in a double-digit deficit behind the men from northwestern Washington, who won 116.

Off of the top of my head, 2 other examples of this type of happening were the 1993 Giants, who won 103 games but missed the playoffs because their division rivals (the Atlanta Braves) won 104.

Going back to the days of the 154-game schedule, the 1954 New York Yankees had a winning percentage of .630 (103-51), but did not make the postseason because the Cleveland Indians went 111-43 (.721.)

And that .721 winning percentage by those 1954 Indians is still an American League record. A team would have to go 117-45 in a 162-game schedule in order to surpass that. The 2001 Mariners missed it by 1 game.

Minny is a bad team.No hitting, no pitching and bad defense. They 0lay somewhat better at home.You want to keep going in the easier part of the schedule A's and Twins Gets a little tougher soon.

I think we should take 2/3 from Minny. Hoping the weather holds up, this week is supposed to be bad.

We've had a winning record in 3 of the 4 ten-game stretches, and just barely had a losing record in the other one. That's a pretty good formula for success.

      Assuming we make the playoffs - and Fangraphs assures me it is still 98.8% certain - do we deserve a champagne-and-goggles celebration this year? Feels like instead they should be making a group apology to the fans for making it close.

      I'm surprised that with the pitching injuries and issues that the Orioles had, we didn't see more guys from Bowie get moved up to Norfolk to atleast check them out. Heid and Roth (who did deal with an injury in July that impacted him for a few weeks) could have gone to Norfolk for the last month. Loon, if he wasn't injured, could be in place to be there next season.

      At this stage, I don't care how we get in - just get in. As been said on here a zillion times, the playoffs are a crap shoot. As bad as it seems right now - WHY NOT?

      Oh, I forgot Mountcastle.  He had a 2.2 bWAR season going (1.4 oWAR). And he's effectively been replaced with O'Hearn who is a 1.3 bWAR player (which has been dropping) of which he has a -1.4 dWAR and a 1.8 oWAR. So there's a net negative there, too, going from O'Hearn part time to him FT and losing Mounty's bat. Injuries are a part of any given team, but I don't think it's unfair to say this team would be at 88-89 wins with even half of those guys back.

      While agree that taking this year's Santander out of the offense would hurt. This is the only year that he has performed at this level. He's OPS is 37 points higher this year, than his avg. His OBP stinks and he goes cold for fairly long periods. He's had a couple of heaters that have padded his OPS. His career OPS+ is 114 and that is buoyed by this years 132. I am not saying he sucks or is even at a replacement level player. But he is a pretty flawed player who is not likely to repeat this year which has been pretty flawed as well. I like Santander and I think he provides valuable leadership. I just don't see him having the value that it will take to keep him. I also don't think he is the type of player that ages well.

      You really should have to finish in first place to make the playoffs. If the divisions were large from back in the day then I could understand having 2nd place teams make it. It was such an accomplishment back then. We can all agree 3rd place teams making it is a joke.
