Thanks for updating this, it's an interesting snapshot of the season. That 3-7 stretch back in July was a sign of things to come, O's fans just did not see it at the time.

Even so, there was only one really bad 10-game stretch (defined as 2-8 or worse). Take that one away (say, replace by 5-5) and the O's would be right in the hunt. It goes to show that it may take only a bad two weeks to sink a season.

Seems to me the 1-9 stretch defines the season. Where did that come from?

That twins series sweep at home was a killer. It was just so flukey. Our downfall this year was that earlier in the season we gave too many games away with Norris. As much as DD talks about depth we had none this year with SP. Norris and Wright had 10+ GS where we didn't even have a chance. With the balance in the AL East this year we just couldn't afford to give those away. I'm happy that the team has battled back. It would have been real easy just to fall apart.

7-13 in games started by Norris and Wright. It's hard to make the playoffs with that kind of production from the #5 spot.

If anything, that 1-9 mark actually understates how bad that one stretch was, since it was part of a 1-12 skein. Truth is, though, we only had one stretch of really good baseball all year, our 18-5 stretch in June. Take away that good stretch (+13) and the one really bad stretch (-11) and you've just got a lot of mediocre baseball. The starting pitching killed us IMO, and we simply couldn't win whenver the offense hit a cold spell.

Good summary. It's not just Norris either. Tillman has been inconsistent. Gausman did not advance to the next level. Gonzo got hurt. All that adds up to maybe one #3 starter (Chen) and a bunch of backend guys. Too many holes on offense (JJ, RF, LF) to make up for the lack of pitching.

Tillman has been unacceptably bad imo. And you're right about KG.
