You have to trade for a new 3B, right?

Prospects like Bundy and Harvey etc. Isn't that the idea? Sell the farm out of panic in order to somehow insure you get to the WS?

Bundy is on the 40-man roster. Harvey probably doesn't net as much as he should thanks to the mysterious, season ending arm issue.

Time will tell. Though I suspect it won't wind up saying very much.

The point is the notion of trading for a 3B at this time is absurd on the face of it. It's pure fantasy baseball. TEX has No reason to trade Beltre unless you offer them Gausman, Schoop or Manny and Bundy.

Bundy is on the 40 man. He would have to pass through Texas to be traded elswhere, right?

The reason they'd have is that it's the archetypal "sell high" situation for them. Beltre is already old, and he's owed a lot of money for next year's age 36 season. He'll probably also be due a significant salary at age 37 if he simply manages to stay healthy next year.

Beltre's not a long-term part of the Rangers' future, so they'd be foolish to not consider a trade that might benefit them in the longer term. They have plenty of positional prospects in their system who could theoretically step in for Beltre (e.g., Kris Bryant) in the event of a trade that could net the Rangers valuable pieces.

Same old BS, yep. I can't believe they're actually going to keep on keeping on with this ridiculous stuff that put them 8 games up on the division in August.

The 25 man rooster they have: Flaherty, Davis, and Schoop who can all play 3B. The Norfolk Express has been gased up and ready to go.

Lets just beat the Cubbies today.

Probably be easier to wrest Beltre from the Rangers. The sun is out.

I wouldn't make a trade with Bundy for Beltre but I would if it included Yu Darvish. Someone suggested Tillman as part of a deal.... No way it happens but wowza...love me some Yu Darvish.

As MrOrange pointed out, our guys would have to pass through waivers, and there is no way the likes of Tillman, Gausman, Bundy, Manny, Schoop, or whomever make it through.

Is Yaz on the man? Even up for Beltre then:)

To state/summarize the obvious. Third base was an Oriole strength. It's now a weakness, with the current options being an unproductive hitter (Flaherty), a potential slugger with limited 3B experience who just doesn't look like a third baseman (Crush), and weakening two positions by moving Schoop to 3B and promoting one of the AAAA guys to play 2B.

There's some disagreement about what we'd like to acquire to fill this gap, but my objective would be someone with 3B experience and a better-than average-bat (preferably LH), who can be acquired without mortgaging much of the future, who isn't paid a whole lot, and (because I like Hardy) who will become disposable after we win the World Series or, in the worst case, when Manny returns next spring.

Could we re-acquire Danny Valencia on the cheap as Toronto's post-season chances recede and the Jays look to the future? He bats right and is not terrific at the plate (a .717 OPS, but with a .331 OPS -- those numbers are higher since he joined Toronto). He'd be a modest upgrade at a modest cost.

    • A few of them are comparable. I rather have Kirby, Singer, Ober, or a healthy Rodon, as my number 3 over Kremer.  I don't have a problem with Kremer as my number four, but i'd like another pitcher who can regularly shut down an offense in the top 3.  I also look at the FA deadline as perhaps the best opportunity to add a guy who can replace some of Burnes production when he likely he leaves after the season.  I would be floating Kjerstad for a pitcher like that.
    • I don't consider Gil their ace.  He is a rookie with decent stuff but I think he massively regresses before the end of the year.  I do not expect him to get a playoff start ahead of Cole, Stroman, Cortes or even Rodon by the end of the year.  To say they are all better than the Orioles top three is insane to me.  Burnes is better than every pitcher on that list with the possible exception of a healthy Cole which he may not be all of this year.  His situation feels similar to Bradish to me.  Rodriguez is better than all but a handful of the guys on that list.  I think we have 2 of the top 7-10 pitcher in the AL but you think we have a worse rotation than any of the likely AL playoff teams.  That is crazy talk to me.
    • Right.  That’s the problem and why they keep going to Cano.  We were thin before we lost Coulombe.
    • Eddie and Cal were not as athletic. Gunnar’s athletecism is why I compare him to Alomar and Brady.
    • Kimbrel lol. I mean it's pretty thin back there, they have to add another arm at least.
    • Who do you trust over Cano in the 7th and 8th?
    • I don't think this is an all-in year.  A lot can happen in a year.  This time last year, if someone on the board posted that in the upcoming offseason that we'd get Burnes for Joey Ortiz and DL Hall, they'd have been laughed out of the room.   So many things can happen in a year that people have no way of predicting or forecasting.  No one saw Ryan O'Hearn becoming one of our best hitters.  No one saw the leap Gunnar was going to make from last year to this year.  No one saw the player Westburg is becoming.   Yeah, we could lose Burnes and Santander but we could also gain your guy Coby Mayo and someone else through a trade.  Remember, Corbin Burnes wasn't on our radar at all last year. We've got a great, great core group of young players with more on the way.  We're set up for the next 5-10 years, easy.   If this were an aging, veteran team with a bunch of 30 somethings like the '96 and '97 teams, I'd agree.  Push all the chips to the middle of the table.  But this isn't that. I get that we're finally good, everyone's excited, everyone want to see this team win a World Series now, this year, because it's been so long since we have.  But it's also really important that we've got the opportunity to do it every year for the next 10 years, too.
