Yasmany Tomas - OF - Player

MLB.com's Paul Hagen reports that the Phillies are "cooling off" on Yasmany Tomas.

Philly was thought to be one of the favorites to sign the 23-year-old Cuban defector, but Hagen writes Thursday that the club now views Tomas "as more of a designated hitter-type player" after scouting him in a number of public and private workouts. The initial belief that Tomas would command a $100 million contract now seems misguided. He is expected to accompany his agent to the December Winter Meetings to stir up interest.

If he's seen as a "DH only" type, it should lower his price tag dramatically. Maybe he could be had on a shorter term deal that could be appealing to the O's?

It might not be 100 million but it won't be cheap.

I wonder if our international scouts are in the DR?

I am sure Fred is there.

Guatemala - The Cuban player Yoan Moncada displayed Wednesday in Guatemala conditions for at least 50 scouts from 30 teams in the majors, which could provide a multimillion dollar contract.

Moncada, 19, showed conditions for 90 minutes to about 200 people who came to the main diamond Guatemala City.

"The boy is hitting very well. His career is also good. I saw many people excited with their performance. And I'm very impressed by the large number of scouts who came to see him, "he international director scouts Baltimore Orioles, Fred Ferreira, after Moncada trial told Efe.

Interesting that the list is so NL heavy.
