Time to stop trashing the Astros. Just because folks don't like the low payroll from a few years ago doesn't mean it wasn't the quickest way back to respectability.

That organization has made a quick comeback talent-wise and will be knocking on the door sooner than most here expect.

I'll trash them as long as they have that GM thank you.

You trash them as much as you want.

With the talent turnaround in Houston, that trashing looks like a combination of sour grapes and general ignorance in how to turn around a baseball franchise (when someone is laying out the blueprints right in front of you).

We'll see what happens when that franchise moves from the talent accumulation phase to giving full effort to compete at the major league level, but that FO has closed the talent gap with most of baseball in a hurry.

I wouldn't get too excited. We have never spent that kind of money on an international guy.

But we never really spent any money on Internationals either until DD showed up. (having trouble remembering if Chen was DD or AM) Perhaps times are changing on the front?

Well, this guy is different in that he doesn't count toward the International signing pool. It would really be like signing a free agent without losing your draft position.

The international free agents are batting close to 1.000 in recent years. If we don't play then we're not keeping up with the evolution of baseball.
