It's time to get on the Colby Rasmus train (Signs w/Houston)

I understand where you are coming from, and certainly any surgery on the vertebrae near the spinal cord is not to be taken lightly. At the same time, I would not assume that the procedure Nick is having is exactly the same as what Reimold and Manning had. Every medical situation is a little different. I doubt Nick would have had this surgery if it had been presented as carrying a lot of risk, considering that he has been able to play with the condition the last two years and barely missed any games.

From what I had read his condition had deteriorated toward the end of last season. I know Nick is surgery adverse but if the situation was presented to him that this wasn't something that was going to improve on its own and that further deterioration was possible I could see him going ahead even if it wasn't risk free.

Agreed. And no surgical procedure is risk free. The public statements Nick made did not suggest a high level of concern, though, and I doubt the Braves would have signed this deal if they thought there was a lot of risk with this procedure.

I meant in free agency.

Yeah...I kinda figured you meant that! ;)

I don't see anyone available in FA that's better than De Aza right now. I think Rasmus would have been a good guy to take a shot on, but I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over him signing in Houston.

Just... because...

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Glad to see <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> grabbing Rasmus. Gets <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Orioles?src=hash">#Orioles</a> fans to stop wanting to sign him. Better OBP options via trade (Ethier).</p>— Jonathan French (@JTrea81) <a href="
